Presented by Past Student Senate President Charlotte Achen who spent the last four months writing it. This guidebook (which may be supplemental to the retreat) covers how to be a senator and the president, the events the senate has put on in the past, and guidelines for being part of the senate, and how to be a leader among leaders. Review the table of contents There will be a hard copy in flor's office, another in the senate offices, and Laura will have one. A digital copy is in Dropbox. As new events happen and committees change, please add them to the book, without removing what is already there. Human Services Club Art Exhibition Info/Action T. DeSandres 15 Minutes This item is up for discussion/possible action regarding the approval of up to $1,431.00 from the 71 Programs Account to fund an art exhibit that will be hosted at Cabrillo publicizing the issue of Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse through the creation of bronze casted masks. Jason came to us last spring with an explanation of the project but ran out of time and we wanted more information. He is with us now to explain. He brought a bronze casting with a tape - the final project. We were joined by some of the members of the Human Services Club. Also a student who transferred from Cabrillo last year who shared his thoughts, “I shared a story with sexual abuse, I think that this is a great idea, I feel it is very important to raise awareness. I am standing here today helping to get the student senate’s support, to hope that people can us this exhibit to learn about their problems.” The ICC has pitched in half the money required for the project and he is hoping the senate will cover the other half. About half the allocated money has already been spent. The Senate appreciated the new budget breakdown. It was the recommendation of the budget committee that the Senate partially fund the project as a gesture of support. Devin moves and Steven seconds to approve $800 from the 71 Programs account to fund the Human Services Club Art Exhibition. Motion passes 6:1:0 D. Funds for CPEC Training Info/Action C. Frost 10 Minutes This item is up for discussion/possible action regarding the approval of up to $1,100 from the 71 Lecture Series Account for the Certified Peer Education Committee to hold two training sessions. These funds will cover breakfast, lunch, and the materials and supplies. This will train students to be peer counselors who will be able to help other students with psychological and emotional counseling. This will reduce the wait time for students to see councillors and address issues that can be resolved by peers. The training will be two days, those students will then have to devote two solid hours a week to seeing students. They will be in teams of two in meeting rooms next to the vet center, in the library, on secluded benches around campus. Sesario feels strong enough that he has bought this with his own money. Devin brings up that this isn't really an appropriate use of the lecture series account, but would be a very beneficial program at Cabrillo. Moved by Carter and seconded by Devin to approve $1,100 from the 71 Lecture Series Account for the Certified Peer Education Committee to hold two training sessions. These funds will cover breakfast, lunch, and the materials and supplies.
