This letter is to notify you about the changes in the lower-division requirements of the Psychology major applicable to transfer students admitted to UC Berkeley starting Fall 2015 admission cycle for matriculation Fall 2016. Please be advised that if the student is unable to complete all of the lower-division prerequisites, the student has the opportunity to complete their remaining requirements on or before their first semester at UC Berkeley. The new curriculum is as follows: The changes boil down to this: One less course required in Biology and Evolution One extra course in the Quantitative Area and PS courses are no longer an option. General Psychology AP Psychology with a test score of 4 or 5 or Psychology 1 - Cabrillo Course PSYCH 1 or 1H Biological Science (Two courses are required.) One course from: AP Biology with a score of 4 or 5 or Anthropology 1*, Biology 1A**, IB, MCB 31, or MCB 32 - Cabrillo Course ANTHR 1/1H, BIO 1A & BIO 1B or BIO 5 *Evolution requirement has been removed. Anthro 1 (Physical or Biological Anthropology) now fulfills one of the biological science requirements. **Biology 1A lab is not required. One course from: Psych C61/MCB C61* or Psych C64/MCB C64** - Cabrillo Course PSYCH 4 (or BIO 4, BIO 5 or BIO 13A) Social Science (Two courses. Note that the two courses must be from different departments.) Anthropology 3 or 3AC - Cabrillo Course ANTHR 2/2H Sociology 1, 3, or 3AC - Cabrillo Course SOC 1/1H Linguistics 5 – no articulation Philosophy 3, 4, 5, 12A, or 25B - Cabrillo Course PHILO 12 or PHILO 7 Note: Courses in Political Science have been removed from the list. Quantitative (A total of 3 courses is required.) Psych 10 Research Methods – Must be taken at UC Berkeley *Some community colleges offer courses in Research Methods. Students must submit a copy of their syllabus during their student orientation for faculty review. If the student is unable to satisfy this requirement, he/she may complete the course during his/her first semester at UC Berkeley. Plus Two UCB Equivalent courses from the list – Math 10A & 10B - no articulation Math 1A = Cabrillo Courses MATH 5A Math 1B = Cabrillo Courses MATH 5B Math 54 = Cabrillo Courses MATH 6 plus MATH 7 equivalent to Math 54 or Math 55 = Cabrillo Courses MATH 13 plus MATH 23/CS 23 equivalent to Math 55 Stats 2 = Cabrillo Course MATH 12/12H “If a student completes Math 1A and Math 1B, the student already completes 2 out of the 3 required quantitative requirements. Students can combine different courses in the math/stats category such as Math 1A + Stats 2, or Math 1B + Stats 2. The only thing that we do not accept is AP coursework to fulfill the quantitative area”.
