Renishaw UV Raman microscopy 1. Parameters: Laser source: 244 nm UV laser Especially for nanodiamond analysis 2. Electrical manual 3. Operation procedure Lexel laser operation 1. Open the water cooling (outlet first, then inlet) 2. Open the nitrogen gas cylinder, make sure the gas pressure is 0.5 SLM 3. Turn the line circuit breaker ON 4. Set Control Selector switch to Current mode, and turn the Current Control knob to minimum: all the way counterclockwise, then 1/4 turn clockwise. This sets a current level value at which the laser can start easily 5. Turn the key control ON and press the Power On button 6. After a time delay of approximately 45 seconds the start will be enabled. At this time, press the Laser Start button 7. Set the laser tube current to 12 Amps and allow the system to warm up for at least 45 minutes. The system is equipped with an AC 530 stabilizer and therefore future warm-up periods will be approximately 20 minutes 8. To turn off the laser system, switch the Control Selector to Current mode and set at 15A. 9. Push the Power Off button and then turn off the key switch. It is recommended to leave the main circuit breaker ON to maintain the crystal heater and AC 530 active. The nitrogen purge can be turned off as well, but it is best for the crystal to be left on. 10. The laser cooling water should be turned off after a cool-down period of at least 3 minutes. Renishaw spectrometer operation 1. Open the software wire 4.1 2. Make a calibration using nature diamond crystal 3. Put your samples on the stage and focus it to make sure we can see the image clearly 4. Set current position to origin 5. If the 15X objective is used, set a Z offset of -28 µm; if the 40X objective is used, set a Z offset of -800 µm 6. Then run the measurement. Note: When using 40X objective, the users should be very cautions to avoid the collision on the samples.
