Youth Mental Health First Aid

Do you or someone you know work with adolescents? This groundbreaking public education class helps the public identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in youth. This 8 hour course uses role playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect persons to professional, peer, social, and self-help care. This program also teaches about the risk factors and warning signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and addictions.

Craft Beer Trade Certificate

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the craft beer industry? The Craft Beer Trade Certificate is an interdisciplinary program that provides an overview of the art, science, technology, and business aspects of the craft beer industry. The program spans three quarters (30 weeks) and is designed to be challenging and interactive. Students learn about the craft beer trade using a variety of approaches including lab work, hands on experience, lectures, field trips, and industry speakers.

LIFE & LEISURE

Tango 101

Learn to dance the exciting and special dance that is the Tango! This course will feature all you need to know to learn and enjoy the Tango, including ballroom floor etiquette. At the last class, show off your newly learned talents with a short lesson and culminating Valentine’s dance.

Date: 3 consecutive Tuesday evenings & final lesson and dance on the Thursday before Valentine’s.

Time: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Cost: $60 per person or $100 for couples

Introduction to Cross Country Skiing

New to cross country skiing and want some help starting out? This class will give you the basic skills necessary to comfortably ski on flat or slightly hilly terrain. On-snow classes will demonstrate skill progression as well as explain how to dress properly for skiing and the different types of skis available.

Please note that students will need to be sized at Mountain High Sports the week before class (during business hours, at the student’s leisure with confirmation of enrollment) or the hour before class.

Discover Snowshoeing

This adventure is geared toward families or those new to snowshoeing looking for a gentle tour and a fun way to get out during the winter months. Snowshoeing is easy, great exercise, and fun for adults and kids alike. You will learn the basics of using snowshoes, take a beautiful hike in the snow (1-2 miles) and learn the 7 principles of Leave No Trace. Snowshoes will be provided. Location of the hike is dependent on snow – please call closer to class date for further information.

Brushes & Brews

This is not your typical painting class! Relax and enjoy fresh handcrafted brews while creating an instructor-directed painting in one night in Downtown Ellensburg at Gallery-One. Bring a friend or socialize with the class. Combining painting and beer, you’re bound to have a great time! Class price includes painting materials and complimentary beer. Must have valid ID and be 21 years to participate.

Digital Photography I

This class is designed to give a deeper understanding of the controls and functions of a Digital SLR and full-feature point-and-shoot camera. Learn how these controls can be used to take control of the camera rather than just setting the camera on automatic and hoping for a “happy accident”. We will also learn how to improve photographs through an awareness of visual compositional elements and strategies and through the use of digital editing techniques. Follow this class up with Digital

Photography II to really sharpen your skills!

Knitting Know-How

This course will focus on the fiber art of knitting. Step-by-step lessons will allow students to create hats and scarfs and gain the skills to create wonderful items that can be kept or given as gifts. This class will also set the foundation for much more complex projects such as lacework and Afghans. Additionally, intermediate information such as how to navigate popular pattern sites and how different fibers react to knitting will be covered.

Sessions: 5 sessions, every other Wednesday Evenings

Date: February 11 – April 15 th (No session during spring break).
