Taste the World 2012
The Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) Dental Clinic was established in 2000 by renowned
Japanese photographer Kenro Izu and is currently staffed by one full-time dentist and three
full-time dental assistants. Each month more than 800 Cambodian children are seen by the
AHC dental team. In addition to work performed at the recently renovated clinic, outreach
work is performed by the dental team who provide treatment and education to local village
health centers, orphanages and schools across the province of Siem Reap.
Along with the full-time Cambodian staff, the department receives volunteer dentists from
around the world who donate their time to work alongside the local team. An agreement
with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry supports an international rotation
twice a year with General Practice Residents and DMD students as part of their student
electives. This provides an incredible opportunity for teaching, patient education and
developing a sense of social responsibility as oral health care professionals. The rotation is
under the leadership of Dr. Christopher Zed, Associate Dean, Strategic and External

Funding Request
The cost to run the AHC Dental Clinic is approximately $60,000 per year. On opening night
of Taste the World 2012 $10,000 was raised—help us raise the balance. We ask that you
and your office please consider a tax deductible donation of $50, $500, $5,000 or any
amount of your choice to help continue to provide free vital dental services to thousands of
Cambodian children.
