Students will begin by brainstorming their invented character’s traits (using the Characterization Chart). (Handout) A copy of this brainstorming page is due before they leave class. setting: place and time in story writing. Discussion includes reading: The Last Match by Jack London together in class to experience the poignant effects of setting in that short story. 2. They will then create a character sketch Writing Activities: ∙Completing Student Response Papers: 1. Journal Page turned in. 2. Class notes. 2. Students worked on their response papers in class. (Due: at beginning of 4th class, Feb. 13th) 3. Students began Character Sketches by using Characterization Chart to brainstorm their character’s traits and then used these traits to write a character sketch, following the method demonstrated in class last week. (To be turned-in at end of 4th class, Feb. 13th). Students will use this class time to work on their “5 paragraph response papers” about the short story that they selected and read. (Due at the beginning of 4th class: Feb. 13th.) about their character. They can discuss any problems or questions that they have about this assignment with the instructor at this time. ∙Written Assignments: 1. Prepare a Journal Page to turn-in at the beginning of next class. 2. Finish Response Paper for beginning of next class, Feb. 13th. Be sure to include Title Page. 3. Finish Character Sketch to turn in next class. ∙Reading Assignments: Students will continue to read and think about the four chapters already assigned.
