Faculty Fellow Appointment
Dear Faculty Member:
It is my pleasure to invite you to take the position of Faculty Fellow for _________________.
The term of this appointment will be for ______ term(s)/semester(s), beginning
____DATE)_______ through _________(DATE)___________. The appointment may be renewed each semester/term thereafter upon mutual agreement. Beginning ____( DATE)_____, you will receive _____ reassigned hours per week, in accordance with section 4.07 (C) of the
CSEA Agreement, for the purpose of fulfilling your Fellow appointment. The amount of reassigned time may vary from semester to semester. Should the estimated amount of reassigned time required for this assignment change, I will notify you as soon as possible so you can best determine your schedule for the following semester.
The work you will perform as a Faculty Fellow is critical to the College because it is a way for you to engage in a leadership role in areas where faculty expertise is of particular importance, but is outside the traditional teaching workload. Listed below are the expectations of the assignment, as well as the outcomes you will be working to achieve during the term of your appointment. There is the opportunity to adjust or alter these outcomes upon consultation with the involved academic administrators (e.g., Dean, Associate Vice President and/or Senior Vice-
President of Academic Affairs).
As a tenured faculty member, you will retain all of the rights and privileges related to tenure, and established rank. Time served as Faculty Fellow will count towards your seniority and towards eligibility for your next promotion. The activities performed during your term as a Faculty
Fellow may be considered as leadership in the Service to the College category or other appropriate category for annual appraisals and promotion. Your work as a Fellow will be evaluated periodically by ___________________and will be reflected in your annual evaluation.
You should also consider how accepting this position may impact your ability to contribute in meaningful ways in categories unrelated to this position.
If after a period of time, either you or the College believes that this arrangement is not accomplishing the outcomes intended, neither party will be held to this agreement, and you may return to your full-time faculty role at the beginning of the subsequent term/semester. Agreed upon activities would be completed during the remainder of the term/semester during which this decision is made.
