No restrictions on length of internship. We service a lot of farms that we also manage, so we do a little more than just medicine/consulting. If a student is interested in doing an internship, they can e-mail me or call the clinic and we should be able to set them up.
We do have biosecurity restrictions, so have them call and get those before they would head to Carthage. If you need anything else, please don't hesitate to ask.
If you are a veterinary student interested in food animal medicine, we can help mentor you. Our dairy and swine clients are willing to host students interested in gaining on-the-farm experience that will help you build your resume, gain confidence and experience or find a job. Veterinary students gain a wide array of experience working alongside our veterinary team. We can provide housing on a limited basis. Our summer job is salaried and students have had the opportunity to conduct a project suitable for presentation at the AASV annual meeting. Send a cover letter stating your goals along with a resume to our office in the attention of Dr. Angela Daniels, 3216

We offer a 12 week summer intern program for Veterinary students. Students have the opportunity to, but are not required to perform a research project throughout the summer for possible competition in the AASV student scholarship program at the AASV annual meeting. Students spend time with the health services team and independently, learning the various aspects of swine production, assisting with cases, working on production problems and helping with client communication to drive implementation of health and production practices on family farms within our system. Students need to be hardworking, responsible and work well both independently and as part of a team. The
internship is paid and housing is provided. In addition, The Maschhoffs, Inc also accepts senior veterinary externs for a rotation in the company.
Murphy-Brown, LLC is offering a summer swine internship program for veterinary students interested in swine medicine and production.
Location: Murphy-Brown Eastern Operations is located primarily in southeastern North Carolina, as well as south central Virginia. Depending on location, students will be within 2 hours of the Atlantic coast, and 1-3 hours from the Raleigh, NC area.
Objectives:
1.
Provide a setting for veterinary students to experience swine health and production in an integrated system.
2.
Provide focus and resources on a specific MurphyBrown production or health opportunity.
3.
Foster communication between Murphy-Brown, students, and veterinary programs.
Production experiences
The interns will gain farm-level production experience including: breeding, farrowing, nursery, finisher, multiplication, and boar stud operations. They will also have one-on-one interaction with members of the production team to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day operations at the farm level.
Additional experiences tailored to intern interests could include processing plant operations, feed milling operations, transportation/logistics, and the diagnostic laboratory.
Health team experiences
Interns will be considered part of the Health Services team and will participate in many of the group’s activities. These activities will include discussions and interactions specifically centered on the production flows where the student is gaining experience, as well as participation in other farm visits, initiatives, and projects.
Targeted project involvement
The interns will be encouraged to develop individualized projects suitable for presentation at AASV. The student will play the primary role in the design and management of the project, which will focus on a specific health or production issue. During the internship the student will be responsible for managing the time tables, activities, data collection, and analysis of the project.
Arrangements: Murphy-Brown will provide housing, a transportation allowance, and a stipend.

Several veterinary students have been hosted that are seeking an experience in epidemiology.
Compensation depends on the arrangement (externship versus summer employment). More information can be provided by Dr. Detwiler. As we are on the CSU campus, sometimes visiting students stay with CSU vet students. Year round opportunities except for December.
