Comment about overall progress so far, as well as strengths and areas for development or concern:
At first Gary seemed unsure how to manage some students’ comments and after seeking advice on this he now manages these effectively. Students are now fully aware of Gary’s expectation of them, and as a result the behaviour and attitude has changed to help support the atmosphere which Gary works to create.
Although Gary does manage a positive environment for learning, and he does support students to become autonomous learners, he can at times struggle to get all students identifying that their own experiences can/ should be used to support their learning. Gary does continue to develop this though, along-side the work he does in class, so that students can develop their own perceptions on subjects and life; rather than being told them. Gary is working on this through teaching students that maths is a subject with many, many applications and uses and is not just simply the examples used in class.
Gary does need to remember to dress more in keeping with his role as a teacher rather than a student. He is now aware that wearing a sleeveless shirt and
Beanie woollen hat is unacceptable.
Gary ’s student feedback is often gained through a very informal manner, in a very engaging and supportive classroom environment and Gary uses this feedback to inform future lessons, and also makes changes during his current lessons to ensure that the students get the best learning experience possible.
I am very pleased with Gary’s progress so far.
