Gary Barello
A credit union member since 1992, Gary Barello has more than 24 years experience in human resources,
specializing in: employee relations, organizational development, performance management, benefits,
compensation, executive coaching, recruitment, succession planning and training & development. His
depth and breadth of knowledge are a reflection of the diverse sectors that he has served: financial
services, government, international manufacturing and not-for-profit.
Gary holds a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Hispanic literature and language from Stony
Brook University. He began his career with the US Postal Service in 1979 while attending St. John’s
University School of Law in Queens, NY. After several promotions, Gary moved on in 1987 to General
Instrument, a leading global manufacturer of semiconductors and transient voltage suppressors with
6,000 employees and operations in North America, Europe and Asia, where he enjoyed 15 years of
service and was named Vice president, Human Resources under CEO Ronald Ostertag. During this
period, Gary successfully completed his MBA and was honored by delivering his master’s thesis at Oxford
University in London.
After General Instrument was purchased by Vishay, Inc. in 2002, Gary joined Bethpage Federal Credit
Union, where he served as the Senior Vice President, Human Resources under CEO Kirk Kordeleski. As
a member of the executive management team, Gary also served as a key figure on the Credit Union’s
strategic planning team, in addition to overseeing the organization’s full spectrum of human resource
functions. With four-plus years of service and great satisfaction with his corporate achievements, Gary
departed from Bethpage to increase his course load as an Adjunct Professor with Dowling College and to
consult. Currently, Gary currently serves as the VP, Human Resources and Organizational Development
at Biodex Medical Systems, Inc. under Jamie Reiss.
Gary also serves as a Board Member for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island, as well as the Advisory
Board for the Dean of the School of Business at Adelphi University. He is a member of the Society for
Human Resource Managers, and a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources, the American
Society for Training & Development (ASTD) and is a certified facilitator for the Center for Creative
Leadership and Shipley Associates (business writing and business presentations). Continuing his
commitment to education, Gary also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Dowling College where he
teaches employment law, business ethics, human resources management, organizational & industrial
psychology, and human relations.
