Work Zone Safety
1. At many locations the guard railing is not provided for safety to commuters near service road particularly
between km 0.00 to 10.00. Considering the safety point of view, same shall be provided without delay.
2. Destination board at all the major junctions, Fly over Bridges, Intersections etc are not provided on road site
of NH – 6 in Section-B.
3. Sufficient numbers of cautionary sign boards are to be provided at desired locations of the project highway.
4. Gantry boards showing two languages are not yet replaced and corrected by showing three languages as
per circular of MORT&H on the stretch between Sachin to Palsana as per CA.
5. Delineators near Kerb of median, kerb near side shoulders and at minor junctions, median openings etc.
are not provided in sufficient in numbers as per actual requirement at all locations for safety point of view of
traffic. Some of delineators are damaged/broken it is essential to provide the same in place.
6. It is advised that Kilometre& Hectometre stones are to be provided on edge of side shoulders with proper
foundation and platform for the stability of stone.
7. Vertical clearance at Ch. 44.900 between FRL and high tension line of electrical wiresis to be checked.
8. It is advised to take necessary safety measures near village Budia at km: 100+425 for safety of the road
users and to avoid any accidents in future. The unauthorised median openings should also be closed at the
earliest.
9. Ichhapore junction is not yet properly developed and hence the traffic is facing the acute problem. It is
essential to develop considering the safety to traffic.
10. Diversion provided near Ichhapore ROB/FOB between Km 115.000 to Km 116.000 is to be made four lane
divided carriageway as per actual requirement and as per existing facilities available on site.
11. At Essar Bypass, the metal beam crash barrier and the side kerbs are damaged at many locations due to
the shoulder not constructed and it is unsafe for the traffic. It is advised to construct shoulders at both
carriageways (LHS and RHS) in Essar Bypass for safety point of view.
12. The concessionaire is advised to improve the curves at Essar Bypass as per IRC norms and CA and
remove speed breakers on national highway (NH-6).
13. Some protection measures are to be taken for the safety to H T Tower (Electrical) at ch 84.000 to ch 84.200
(LHS) by providing metal beam crash barriers.
14. Road marking and painting of kerbs mostly in some stretches in Isolux section is not properly visible and
not properly reflecting during night time to the road users.
15. Speed breakers has been provided at many location on main carriage way like near Gate of Reliance
industries Ltd, near gate of NTPC, near gate of KRIBHCO in Hazira Industrial Areaand near RTO check
post (Songadh) on highway of NH-6. Speed breakers shall not be provided on NH but if required
temporarily, painting shall be carried out. Advance speed breaker sign shall be provided with sufficient
visibility to road users.
16. IE advise to provide continuous metal beam crash barrier without gap for the safety point of view to traffic,
except the gaps provided for access to properties or for pedestrian & provided for end treatment. The metal
beam crash barriers which are damaged at many locations, requires immediate repairing for safety of
traffic.
17. The grass/weeds / plants / unwanted vegetation has been grown up in large scale and the median kerb and
side kerbs at both LHS/RHS of road are getting covered by such unwanted grass/weeds obstructing the
visibility of the kerbs. Hence it is advised to keep up periodic trimming up of the unwanted
vegetations/shrubs/grass for safety of the vehicular traffic.
18. Unauthorised median openings along the project highways from Km: 0+000 to 131+500 should be closed in
view of safety of traffic particularly in stretch of Essar bypass.
19. Median openings should be provided in between km: 111+000 to 116+000 as advised by IE to avoid contraflow of traffic.
20. Lighting works are yet to start except the erection of high mast at some location.IE wish to advise the
concessionaire to start for providing the street lighting as per provision in schedule – C & D of CA.
21. Damaged street lights on both side of Tapi Bridge at Km 110+524 are to be repaired as the same should be
put in good and working condition as it was before.
22. It is advised to provide the RCC crash barrier replacing the existing Railing on Major Bridges at Ch110.524
(Tapi Bridge) for safety point of view.
23. Rectification works for the points raised by safety consultant related to the discrepancies of safety issue
vide their last letter is not fully completed by concessionaire.
24. At many locations, it was observed that some hoarding boards for advertisement are provided on side
shoulders as well as in median of road by private party which are against safety norms and shall be
removed immediately.
25. At Km 89+860-Toll Plaza, Barricading and Reflecting ribbons are missing. At the end of each approaches of
all Grade Separator, there is difference in level between MCW and SR. It is totally unsafe without any

protections. MB Crash Barriers with reflecting tape is mandatory to provide the Flyover/VUP locations at
Km.18.901, Km.53.333, Km.76.460, Km.77.666, Km. 82.978, Km. 88.736, Km.92.770, Km. 95.925,
Km.109.246.
It was noticed that hazard marker sign boards are placed behind MB crash barriers at some locations of
structure (Km. 64.815, Km.58.737) and not visible to the traffic users. These need to be rectified for safety
aspects.
There is level difference between both MCWs at Km 86+860. Hazard markers sign board with reflecting
tapes to be provided on Median Walls.
The top hooks of the precast slabs lined drains have not been removed / cut at many locations.
There is sudden reduction of carriageway width due to land issues at Km 78+000. Sufficient safety
measures should be taken with installations of safety warning sign boards.
Guard rails damaged at many locations are to be repaired including guard rail at Km: 17+000 to 18+000
near Songadh.
Painting of Guard rails at many locations are yet to be carried out particularly between Km: 16+000 to Km:
18+000.
Bumps/Speed breakers provided on exit of Toll Plaza at Ch 89.950 shall be removed.
Parking of commercial vehicles like trucks, Buses etc were found on road side of main carriageway in
Hazira industrial area from Km 111+000 to Km 124+000, which is unsafe for vehicle traffic and it is highly
essential to make it totally free of vehicle parking.
It was observed that sign boards have been damaged/ broken at many locations on project highway are
yet to be repaired. Same has been intimated vide IE letter no.: 5382 dated- 08.12.2014
Metal Beam Crash Barriers provided on high embankments have been damaged / broken at many locations
are to be repaired immediately considering safety point of view of the traffic.
Median opening provided just at the end of the approach of ROB (at ch. 41+500 ) which may be conflict
point for traffic. IE advise, in the interest of the safety point of view, to shift the same to more suitable
nearby location.
Some encroachments found at ch. 34+100 (RHS) are to be removed.
Some more suitable signboards are to be provided like Go slow, blinkers etc. at ch.: 4+40 where diversion
starts near river bridge and ROB.
The pre-cast crash barriers stacked on shoulders of main carriage way of Bazipura bypass shall be shifted
in view of safety point of view.
Metal Beam crash barriers are to be installed / erected on edge of shoulder for proper use of side
shoulders.
Electrical poles provided on Essar Bypass road are not working/functioning i e lighting is not there during
night between Km 025.000 to Km 131.500.
Kerbs provided near shoulders are not protected by providing the earth work at many locations particularly
at Bus Bays on highway.
Metal Beam Crash Barriers on outer side of road toward Sumul Dairy side are to be provided near Major
Bridge (Mindhola)
The work of providing earthwork is yet to be carried out at many locations near foot path of service road.
particularly between Km 44.000 to 45.000.
Side shoulders on Vyara Bypass are yet completed by providing the proper width on some stretches.
At many locations the end of metal beam crash barriers are not properly connected to shoulder on road.
Finished level of the petrol pump at Km 24.300 (RHS) is higher than the finished level of main carriageway
of road.
Traffic Jam problem was observed on both sides of R O B near Gandhinagar at Ch 3.917 which is required
to be solved urgently.
Metal Beam Crash Barriers are yet to be provided on both sides of road near R T O Check Post between
Km 15.700 to 16.300.
