Addenbrooke’s Abroad
Addenbrooke’s Abroad’s main aim is to facilitate and support global health partnerships so that staff
and students from Cambridge University Hospitals and the local health community can share their
incredible knowledge and skills in countries where they are most needed.
We believe that these partnerships can have incredible benefits for the UK and the NHS as well, by
not only building strong relationships across the globe, but by broadening the education of health
professionals within the UK.
Addenbrooke's Abroad was established in 2006, in response to increasing recognition within the
NHS and at Cambridge University Hospitals that engaging with global health has benefits for patients
and health care workers both overseas and in the UK. We are proud of the fact that Cambridge
University Hospitals is now one of only a few NHS Foundation Trusts with a dedicated programme
supporting global health activity.
Since 2006, the programme has supported over 100 volunteer placements in 25 countries, and over
60 medical student elective bursaries. We have two established international health links with:
Botswana and El Salvador; and an affiliated one in Romania via another Cambridge based charity.

Project Officer Role
The Projects Officer will support Addenbrooke’s Abroad Programme Director (UK) to manage a
complex and growing programme of work on global health, based on the Addenbrooke’s campus.
We are looking for someone with strong organisational skills and a passion for global health to help
build this exciting charity and expand its reach in Cambridge and overseas.
The main purpose of this role is to support the administration of the programme, ensuring the basic

opportunities worldwide.
The Project Officer role is advertised on a 6 month contract basis, and is an Internship. This means
there is a training element and the post holder should expect to work closely with the Programme
Director to gain experience in a range of project roles. See the full job description below.

Commitment to and interest in global health work
