Punjabi-speaking Recovery Assistant (volunteer): Role Description Location: Southall, UB2 5AL Commitment: Mondays and/or Wednesdays (9am-5pm) weekly Responsible to: Sundeep, Punjabi-speaking Recovery Worker About us RISE is a borough-wide drug and alcohol recovery service working with people throughout their treatment journey; from engagement, through to treatment, prescribing to aftercare. RISE offers a wide range of interventions to Ealing residents, over 18, their families and partners who are experiencing difficulties with drug or alcohol use. We have two hubs for service users currently using substances. These are based in Southall and West Ealing. The work done at each hub is identical. We are currently looking for volunteers for our Southall hub only (see below for address), although in summer 2014 we will be moving the majority of our services to a new building in West Ealing. Most volunteers will then be based there, but some may work either occasionally or exclusively in Southall, according to the services’ needs at the time. West Hub, 3-4 Featherstone Terrace, Southall,UB2 5AL Purpose of the role: The Punjabi-speaking Recovery Assistant will support service users (including but not limited to Punjabi-speakers) through drug and alcohol treatment by providing key work and care coordination. The volunteer will also support RISE service through involvement in projects and steering groups and support the service by providing occasional admin and operational support. Punjabi-speaking Recovery Assistant (volunteer), West Hub role description 16/05/2014 Page 1 of 2 Main tasks will include Completing initial and comprehensive assessments, including risk assessments Carrying a caseload of service users, coordinating their treatment options Providing 1:1 key work sessions including harm reduction advice and recovery planning Completing own administrative and data entry work to keep caseload up to date Occasional reception cover Skills/qualities needed Good written and oral communication skills, English language Good oral communication skills, Punjabi Non-judgmental attitude and willingness to work with service users Basic understanding of drug and alcohol issues IT literacy, including use of Microsoft packages and databases Ability to maintain confidentiality and act within professional boundaries Willingness to attend induction training and ongoing development training Willingness to actively participate in regular supervision What you can expect Volunteer induction into RISE Six session training course covering key skills needed for the role (mandatory) Instruction, guidance and support to carry out your role effectively Reasonable travel and lunch** expenses reimbursed A friendly environment and a rewarding experience *either one day per week for six weeks or two days a week for three weeks, as available **on volunteering days of five hours or more.
