Organizing Presentations More Clearly Paul Christensen Salt Lake Community College COMM-1010-072 2/9/12 Organizing presentations can be difficult for any individual. The most important key that any individual fails to understand whenever giving a presentation is to understand who they are talking to. In other words the key listeners of the audience are what speakers fail to concept. After understanding who you are talking to, the speakers’ next objective is to understand the key points of their thesis. Specifically with any inexperienced public speaker the most common problem is that they don’t organize their thoughts in pattern easy to be understood by others on any level. When you have a lot detail or too little can impact on your audience differently on who they are. Most commonly when a speaker will make a presentation, they will use the problem and solution plan to comprise their presentation. The Problem-Solution plan begins by showing the audience that something is wrong and the presentation suggests how to remedy that situation. (Ronald B. Adler pg. 324) My weakness with properly organizing a presentation for an audience understands the proper plan that goes with the situation. Whenever making a presentation I’ve always stuck to facts and ideas that dealt with the subject to provide that information to the audience. Along without having an understanding of what type of audience is that I am speaking to. Understanding the key audience of who I am speaking to and to grasp on the setting I am put into such as conference rooms, auditoriums or classrooms. Learning these concepts will help me organize my communication skills as a presenter. I plan on improving these skills with constant constructive presentations to show that my skills have improved. To improve on this lack of understanding the basic concepts of communication I’m currently taking communication, humanities and psychology classes. With these classes I will have a better understanding of the human mind and how to communicate with other individuals. Humanities class will be designed to teach me on to question what people believe and think about. Psychology will teach me on the basics of why individuals believe and think the way they do. Finally Communication classes will teach me the skills to put into effect everything I have learned in order better my communication with people. Combining all three of these classes will hone my communication skills to better organize my presentations.
