NORTHERN TERRITORY LIBRARY Book of the Month August 2015 The Top End NTC REF 919.4295 HANC David Hancock is a former newspaper journalist who began his career with the Sydney Daily Telegraph before becoming a professional photographer and freelance writer. He moved to the Northern Territory in 1987 with the intention of staying only for a few years in order to hone his skills in photography. He ended up living there and raising a family. The highlight of Hancock’s book is without question the spectacular photography of the Northern Territory natural landscapes. There are breathtaking shots of the gathering storm clouds during the build-up to the wet season. The floodplains of Kakadu also provide some spectacular imagery. Hancock also provides the explanatory text accompanying the photos, along with travel tips and historical information on subjects such as the early exploration of the Top End and major events such as Cyclone Tracy. A map of the Top End is also included, along with a section on travel advice. www.nt.gov.au
