SCF Collegiate School

State College of Florida Collegiate School is a 6-12 tuition-free public charter school that opened in fall 2010 with 6 th and 7 th grades. It is an innovative model that changes the educational landscape locally and that has national and international application. It is influenced by one of the best international schools, the Swedish Kunskapsskolan model, which nurtures motivation, independence and ensures student success while guiding students toward higher education. SCFCS is now fully operational with an enrollment of 450 students and has been rated an “A” school by the Florida

Department of Education for all three years of its existence.

The mission of SCFCS is to foster incentive and ensure student success within a seamless progression from middle grades through college. This mission will be accomplished by demanding and rewarding innovative teaching and creative leadership to establish a system of customized, modular, studentcentered education, permeated by technology that is applicable to the learning styles, abilities and learning pace of individual students. Innovative teaching and creative leadership will accomplish this mission. Each student is encouraged to learn to work independently, with other students and with instructors to meet his or her goals. Cutting-edge technology enhances the student experience and enables students to connect globally.

All students, grades sixth through tenth, are accepted without criteria; however, for the 11th grade, students must have a cumulative, unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 and pass the Postsecondary

Education Readiness Test (PERT), SAT or ACT exam. As with current SCFCS students, juniors entering this program will replace their high school academic career with college courses earning an associate in arts degree.

SCF

Established in 1957, State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) is the region's first and largest public college, serving 27,000 college credit students annually at campuses in Bradenton, Lakewood

Ranch and Venice, and online via eLearning opportunities. Another 14,000 participants annually attend professional development and personal enrichment classes. The College has graduated 40,000 students since 1960.

SCF is a dynamic College dedicated to meeting the educational and workforce training needs of citizens and businesses in the region. SCF has expanded its mission to include workforce baccalaureate degrees while continuing to focus on highly respected associate degrees that prepare graduates for university transfer and professional careers.

The Corporate and Community Development Division offers year-round noncredit classes in workforce training, small business development, professional development, personal enrichment and driving safety through workshops, seminars, online classes and on-site training programs at area businesses.

Broadening the continuum of education, the College opened a collegiate charter school in fall 2010.

The school enables students to complete high school and receive their Associate in Arts degree simultaneously.

The College is a member of the Association of Florida Colleges, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the American Association of Community Colleges and the Florida Association of Colleges and Universities.

Accelerated College Program

The Accelerated College Program is comprised of 11 th and 12 th grade students who will graduate simultaneously with a high school diploma and an associate in arts degree. A generous partnership with Florida Gulf Coast University offers SCFCS graduates a two-year scholarship for tuition and fees to complete their bachelor’s degree. This will be offered to our first ten graduating classes, beginning with our first graduating class in 2014

Curriculum and Graduation Requirements

The academic program for grades six through ten is organized on a 60-minute, 6-hour daily bell schedule. Six credits per year is the maximum course load. Differentiated instruction and a rigorous curriculum prepare students to be college-ready by 11 th grade and sometimes as early as 10 th grade. Qualified 10 th grade students are allowed to be dual enrolled in one college course per semester.

SCFCS Rank

All SCFCS graduates have completed two years of college with 60 or more credits by the end of their senior year. Because all students are held to the highest academic standard, SCFCS does not rank students. All junior and senior students are fully dual enrolled while some begin in 10 th grade.

Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation

The unweighted GPA is based on a 4 point grading scale computed using the above quality points. Beginning with grade nine, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. A minimum of 24 high school credits and a 2.0 unweighted GPA is required for graduation. Sixty or more college credits are earned when the student completes the requirements for an Associate in Arts degree at the end of 12 th grade.

Dual/Concurrent Enrollment classes are weighted by one point. Grades are recorded on the transcript and GPA is computed in January and May.
