GAANN Fellowship Program The Cell & Molecular Biology Program is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for up to five GAANN (Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need) Fellowships available for 1 year starting August 2015. GAANN fellowships provide tuition and stipend of up to $32,000 per year (based on financial need) for full time students currently enrolled in the CMB Ph.D. Program. Applicants should have a keen interest in a career in teaching and research at the university level. GAANN Fellowship Highlights: A stipend equivalent to up to $32,000 per year plus tuition and fees (depending on financial need*). This stipend may be received concurrent with funds from GTA or GRA positions. Support will be available for conference travel and other eligible expenses pertaining to professional development 4th and 5th year Ph.D. students accepted as GAANN fellows will act as lead instructors teaching an undergraduate course under the guidance of a faculty member All GAANN fellows will attend TILT workshops to prepare them to be effective university educators. They will also work towards completion of a Graduate Teaching Certificate Fellowships may be extended beyond 1 year but it will be necessary to reapply. Application Information: Eligibility is restricted to US Citizens and Permanent Residents currently enrolled or accepted into the CMB Ph.D. Program. Applicants should be committed to pursuing a Ph.D. degree and ultimately a career as a university professor. Students at any stage of their Ph.D. degree will be considered, but those in their 3rd year and beyond must have passed their preliminary exam by the time the fellowship starts. Women and under-represented minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and stipend levels will be determined according to the level of need*. Fellowships may be combined with teaching or research assistantships. Stipend levels will be determined in accordance with financial need. In our experience, most fellows will not have sufficient need to receive the full $32,000 stipend, however it is acceptable for the GAANN fellowship to be combined with a teaching or research assistantship.
