lead to criminal penalty or civil liability, or

Principles
1. Institute ICT resources and services are provided for the use of students enrolled in
approved CIT or CIT Solutions programs.
2. Spare computers in teaching laboratories where classes are being conducted may be used by
other students, provided the teacher in charge of the class gives permission. These students
are not to make demands on the teacher or cause any disruption to the class.
3. Head of Department (Teacher Band 2) or Program co-ordinator authorisation will be
required before a student is given access to specialised or after hours ICT facilities (such as
Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) laboratories). Colleges are to provide an approved list of
Heads of Department and program co-ordinators to CIT Corporate Services before the start
of each semester.
4. Students are allowed to eat and drink responsibly in all areas apart from teaching
laboratories.
5. When accessing CIT ICT resources and services, students must adhere to the following
acceptable use conditions. Students must not:
a. access, download or store inappropriate or offensive material. This includes adult
content and other offensive material.
b. intentionally send unauthorised widespread mail-outs or chain letters or other
malware, eg viruses.
c. intentionally create, send or access information that could damage the Institute’s
reputation, be misleading or deceptive, result in victimisation or harassment, lead to
criminal penalty or civil liability, or be reasonably found to be offensive, obscene,
threatening, abusive or defamatory.
d. save or copy unofficial software and/or large personal files greater than 2MB, to any
network drive. (e.g. non-standard graphics, screen savers, ‘.exe’ files, music and/or
video files).
6. The Institute will log and monitor all ICT related activity on network infrastructure
equipment and applications and will take disciplinary action against students found to be in
breach of this policy as stated under the Unsatisfactory Student Behaviour Policy.
The following principles apply to student use of 24 Hour Access ICT Facilities
7. Students must pay the specified fees to have a 24-hour entry card which enables entry to all
CIT 24-hour Access ICT Facilities.
8. Students using 24-hour Access ICT Facilities or other specialised or after hours ICT facilities
must carry CIT identification.
9. Students using these facilities must not give entry to any other persons.
