14-18 Project Team MILITARY HISTORIAN Job Description Job Band (eventually Global Grade) Reporting to Employees reporting to role Financial Responsibilities Purpose of Job 14-18 Project Manager Historical Research Assistant To provide verbal and written input to the Commission’s activities which require a historical dimension: information panels, website content internal communications. To represent the Commission on key stakeholder planning groups. Key responsibilities and accountabilities General Provide the written historical content to the support the Commission’s information panel programme To represent the Commission on various key stakeholder groups (primarily DCMS) To liaise with the Communications team to ensure that there is good content on military history on the website and internet To contribute to the internal communications process which will keep staff informed throughout the 14-18 centenary (WW1) and 70th anniversary (WW2) activities Key contacts and relationships Develops and maintains a network with the Academic community for research purposes Liaises with and develops client relationships with Areas Acts as a resource for the wider Commission workforce to liaise with for information and support with historical queries Works as an integrated team member of the 14-18 team Member of key DCMS working groups for centenary planning Knowledge & qualifications/experience required Military Historian with extensive knowledge of both World Wars and the many fronts associated with them PhD Committed to continual professional development Must be willing and able to travel to carry out on-site work at any Commission site in the UK or overseas (hold a valid UK driving licence, and a current passport) Able to work flexible hours upon request Knowledge base and contacts to investigate a range of sources quickly and effectively Competencies & Key Skills (functional/technical) Communication – written and oral skills in order to communicate the results of research for different audience requirements Service Delivery Application of Expertise Well-developed research skills Organisation and Prioritisation – able to work on a tight timetable and meet deadlines Date of Preparation May 2013 1
