Leadership Week Maggie created a questionnaire for NRHH Reps to fill out Guest Presentation by Pam Gonzalez, on TEDTalk (found here: http://www.ted.com/talks/chimamanda_adichie_the_danger_of_a_single_story#t-7524) ‘The danger of a single story’ – taking into consideration that the single stories that we develop for an individual is not necessarily the entire story. How can we take the information away from this video and apply it to our situations as student leaders? Bianca: As a student leader, taking this information to mind when having those conversations with people, and being mindful of the conversations that we have Samantha: Not making up our own stories – we only have ‘one story’ and not allowing the stories that others apply to us define who we are. Not creating stories for others based upon initial impressions – those are not their stories, not for us to give. Pam: We all have felt single stories being applied to us, and we have all also been at fault by applying single stories to others. We all make these mistakes, and that is something that we can change. Ask people about their stories, share those stories. We are multifaceted people with more than a single story, and the more that we share those stories with each other the more that we grow. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, and don’t be afraid to ask others to share their stories or to share your story with others. VII. RECOGNITION I. Sierra gave Cam to Katie Cunniff II.
