WEEEKLY UPDATE Stadate: January 17, 2013 Bishops Hall Captain’s Log Happy New Year ! Seventeen days later. I apologize for the absence of a Weekly Update last week but I left school early on Friday sneezing and wheezing much like many others in the school family. In the eight days of school we have had since the new year began good things have been happening in Bishops Hall, foremost among those good things being teaching and learning. Last Thursday we hosted our first official, and formal Alumni Day. In all about 20 Canterbury graduates returned to reminisce and enjoy one another’s company. A group of twelve of them presented to all of the students in two different groups. The students who presented ranged from the class of 2012 to the class of 2005, from freshmen in college to third year medical students. It was wonderful to hear from them how well they have done after Canterbury and how much credit they gave to their teachers at Canterbury for their success in college and beyond. Several teachers were thanked by name and English, math, and science instruction received frequent praise and gratitude. This is a tradition we will continue for a long time to come! Last weekend our debate program passed a milestone. Two teams went to a large tournament at Coppell High School – Jaida Lemmons and Andrew Taylor and Ryan Puente and Clayton Foster. Their achievement at the tournament marked the first time in team history where both teams made it into the outrounds, that is, the rounds beyond initial elimination. Congratulations to everyone on passing this milestone. Keep it up! This week has been Homecoming Week during which our upper school students have been arrayed in some very interesting attire, all, of course, in the name of School Spirit. Truly, everyone seems to be enjoying the novelty of creativity! Festivities peak tomorrow with our Homecoming Pep Rally at 2 p.m. and homecoming games in the evening. Homecoming dance is Saturday evening in the Chafin Lobby. Two things are about to happen: you will receive your re-enrollment packet in the mail and we will be inaugurating a new website with new interconnective possibilities. You will be receiving soon instruction on using the new website to your fullest advantage. Please let me know if you have not received your re-enrollment package by the weekend. Planning is underway for next year and we are looking forward to continue serving your students with an education that will enable them to be selective in their college choices. Thank you for your support – past, present, and future. Sandy Doerge Education Provost
