APSO General Meeting Minutes 09/09/2013 CSU 201 8-9pm Attendees: Pa Chia Vang, Sura Vue, Gao Lee, Yamuna Khatri, Nou Vang, Crystal Thao, Daniel Yang, Long Thao, Mai Lor, Judy Xiong, Sally Tohal, Babie Yang, Shengyeng Xiong, Ka Xiong, Fuam Her, John Xiong, Maixee Vang, Nkauja Vang, Rebecca Xiong, Kathy Thao, Jackie Moua, Kao Vue, Chris Xiong, Kee Yang, Drockong Vang, John Her, Matthew Lor. Meeting started @8:05 pm Who is AAPIA? - Pa Chia, Gao, Kathy and Crystal introduced themselves as the new AAPIA staff and explained each of their own roles and positions as staff of AAPIA. APSO Board Introduction: President: Xai Vue (Senior), Vice President: Vanessa Xiong (Sophomore), Treasurer: Crystal Yong (Senior), Activities Coordinator: Peter Xiong (Sophomore), Secretary: VANCANT. Advisor: Christopher Tran Ice Breaker: - Members introduce themselves with their: Name, Major, Year and Ethnicity. All members introduced themselves out loud Group Haiku 5-7-5 syllables: Divided all the members into three big groups and allowed them about ten minutes to come up with their haiku based on what the group felt described themselves as a group. - All three groups came up one group at a time to perform together what their haiku was The board also performed a haiku that they came up with for the members Mission of Statement: Vanessa read aloud APSO’s mission of statement, “APSO is an organization set out to recruit and retain Asian Pacific Islander students by promoting, educating, and focusing on Asian Pacific Islanders’ perspectives and issues in America. The organization will strive to expand leadership and social opportunities among the general members and plan events.” Announcement: - Secretary position is currently vacant and is open for applications - - Homecoming: Explained about the collaboration of the three RSOs, HAS, VASA and APSO becoming one representing AAPIA for homecoming. Each RSO board officer is assigned under their own choice of which homecoming event they were interested in signing up for. Laid out all the events that AAPIA registered for so the members can sign up at the end of the meeting. Explained all the events that AAPIA is participating in, which are the following: Dodge Ball, Lipsync, Yell Like Hell, Photo Hunt, Canned Food Sculpture, Spirit Banner, Spirit Photo and Eating Contest. Announced APSO’s Open Mic that is a work in progress for the following unofficial date on October 18, 2013, Friday 7-9pm in the Flexible Programming Space (Flex Lounge) which is located in lower CSU by the pizza villa area. Dirty Mouth? By Judy Xiong: - Judy, a member of APSO gives a small informative presentation on dental hygiene and why it is important to get check-ups and cleaning on our teeth. Judy is also looking for students to help her out by scheduling an appointment for cleaning or teeth screenings. The dental hygiene department is also selling white strips to MSU students at a low rate with a powerful impact. Phrases of the day: - Zàijiàn An nyeong Ji ya ne Sib ntsib dua Selamat tinggal Joi gin Wai jer gun ka/krup - Allowed all the members time to try sounding out and pronouncing the phrases. - Jackie, Nikki and Alex volunteered to pronounce the phrases along with the meaning. - Treasurer Crystal Yong pronounced and explained the meaning of each phrase.
