SUZHOU ENTERPRISE IMMERSION PROGRAMME (24 MAY – 30 MAY 2015)
About the Programme:
This is a 7 day programme, with an introduction to business and entrepreneurship. It will consist of a
series of lectures, activities, and company visits that will allow students to deepen their
understanding of business operations, global marketing and resource management, particularly with
respect to its booming Chinese economy. Students will also be exposed to the stories behind the
economic development of Suzhou Industrial Park and learn more about Chinese culture through
visits to both industrial and historical sites. Suzhou, winner of the 2014 Lee Kuan Yew World City
Prize, is recognised as the UNESCO heritage site and referred as the “Oriental Venice”. Modern
Suzhou, as one of the most prosperous cities in China, is home to many aspiring entrepreneurs.
Programme Objectives
Students will learn about the major aspects of China’s economy and how it influences the
development of businesses. Topics include an overview of China’s economy, E-marketing,
entrepreneurship, Doing business in a Global Economy and many more. Students will also take the
learning out of class through company visits (ASUS and Alibaba) which will help students understand
China’s economic environment. Being one of the cradles of world civilization, China has an extremely
rich and long history and students will have opportunities to learn and appreciate this unique
cultural heritage.
Student Selection
There will be 20 students in the trip. There may be an interview for students who are interested in
the programme.
Total Costs for the Programme
1.
The full programme fee is estimated to be S$1800 per participant (excluding VISA).
Programme cost covers the following:
 Air Ticket
 Training Fees
 Double sharing accommodation for participating students
 Meals throughout the program
 Transport for planned activities
2.
Students from SIT will pay 30% of the programme fee and it is estimated to be about S$540
(excluding VISA).

will guide students through business
plan drafting process. Participants
will be introduced to basic elements
of business proposal writing.
Participants will be treated to a closeup dialogue session with an
entrepreneur, to understand the
potential avenues for
entrepreneurship and the realities
and challenges of being an
entrepreneur.
Introduction to The Agreement on
Co-Development and Construction of
Suzhou Industrial Park which has
governed the construction and
development of Suzhou Industrial
Park (SIP) since 1994.
Launched in February 1994, SIP is a
collaborative project between the
China and Singapore government.
During the past decade, SIP has
developed rapidly and is now one of
the most developed industrial zones
across China.
AMD is the second biggest CPU
producer after Intel. AMD designs
and integrates technology that
powers millions of intelligent devices
that aims to create a fuller
experience on their smart devices.
The interaction with AMD side aims
to show why top companies such as
AMD choose to come to China and
how they adapt to the local market.
NUSRI intends to host the dinner
with invited guests from the industry
to share their experiences in China
with students from Singapore.
Suzhou is the birthplace of the
flourishing “Wu” (“Goh” in
Singapore) culture which has had

means to Suzhou.
The Humble Administrator’s Garden
is the Mother of Chinese Gardens. It
has been inscribed as a World
Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.
A facilitator of NUSRI will instruct
students on business plan writing.
NUSRI will arrange a visit to a
company founded by Singaporean
staying in Suzhou.
ASUS is among the top-three
consumer notebook vendors
worldwide. The visit to the ASUS
research and development Center
aims to show participants how ASUS
managed to not only survive but also
excel in this ever-changing industry.
Business dealings in China differ
greatly from other countries This
lecture by either an experienced
academician or an industry leader
will aim to demonstrate these
differences in culture, corporate
governance, resources, social norms
and macro environments among
various countries.
Participants will utilize the knowledge
from business planning and writing
lessons to formulate a business plan
which they will be presenting on
Friday.
Students will be presenting their
prepared business plan to a panel
consisting of NUSRI representatives,
entrepreneurs and MI teachers.
Travel to Shanghai and hotel check-in

Visit to the Bund and Cruise on the Huangpu
River
The bund is an iconic waterfront and
has been regarded as the pride of
Shanghai for hundreds of years. The
west side of the Bund is famous for
its view of the 26 various buildings,
each of which is of different
architectural styles including Gothic,
Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism
and the Renaissance.
