Men’s Club Ice Hockey Team
Dear Bearcat Fan:
Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to Bearcat Hockey, the team was
established in 1974 and play all home games at the historic Cincinnati Gardens. The team
is currently a D2 program as members of the American College Hockey Association
(ACHA) http://achahockey.org/. There are 120 teams in Division 2 and they are divided
into 4 regions; Central, Southeast, West and Northeast. The bearcats compete in the
Southeast region that includes: Miami (OH), Ohio State, Penn State, Kentucky, and
Louisville. While competing in the ACHA, the Bearcats also compete in the Tri State
College Hockey League (TSCHL) http://tschlhockey.com/. There are 8 teams in the
league that include: Pitt, West Virginia, Louisville, Dayton, and Ohio.
Last year, for the first time, all Bearcat games home and away were live streamed with 2
games televised on local television. The team finished 4th in the TSCHL and made the
playoffs for the first time in 5 years. The team finished 12th in the region and received
votes for the regional championship for the first time in program history. So the future
looks bright for the Bearcats but we need your help.
The hockey team is a club sport at the University therefore, the student athletes do not
receive scholarships and pay their own way to play on the team. The team does receive
funding from the school each year to help offset expenses but it only covers the basic
costs of the club operation ( ice time cost). For example, the team practices 3 hours per
week and ice costs $300 per hour. The only other source of revenue is the fees paid by
the players and the fee is $1500 per year. This does not include meals on the road or
equipment.
In order to provide these athletes the best opportunity to succeed and fulfill their dreams,
