Medical EDI Services recently celebrated a decade of service in the private healthcare software industry. Our product, the MedEDI® Claims Processing System, is extensively used by General Practitioners, Specialists and Allied Disciplines to facilitate efficient practice management and realtime claim adjudication to medical schemes. Key to the success of the company and its products is the high level of customer support that we provide. Our understanding of the private healthcare market translates into a product with a user-friendly software interface, and software solutions to address the needs of the modern practice. Realising that practice management and billing superiority is not everything, we take careful note of suggestions raised by our many thousands of clients. We are quick to incorporate useful ideas into the software product, and this helps to keep us ahead of the game. Functionality introduced over the years include pre-validation of available funds prior to seeing the patient, and a useful feature whereby the family dependants details can be pulled from the medical schemes and autocompleted in the software. Another particularly useful feature is the Electronic Remittance Advice, where remittances from the schemes are matched electronically to the corresponding invoice and reconciled automatically. This has a significantly positive effect on practice efficiency and time-saving, allowing staff to put greater effort into other important aspects of the running of the practice. The company has close ties with Practice Perfect, a leading local provider of Electronic Health Records software. Whilst Practice Perfect is available as a standalone product, the integrated MedEDI/ Practice Perfect product shares data between the systems, ensuring that there is no need to duplicate entering of patient demographic data. Medical EDI’s regional sales and support teams are available in each province to provide assistance in respect of installation, training and support of the integrated software. With the move to mobile computing, portable products like laptops, cell phones and tablet computers are being used more and more to allow the busy practitioner to have contact with the practice at any time. With this in mind, we have developed a virtualised version of MedEDI®, which allows practitioners to monitor their practice performance, check their diaries, input data remotely, and to view all available statistical reports. Additional advantages of the virtualised product include a much quicker installation process and central backup of the system to protect data in the event of hardware failure. Our association with major healthcare funders has ensured that, with MedEDI®, practitioners still enjoy the most real-time enabled switching of claims to the schemes. This association has also presented opportunities which may enhance remuneration to practitioners. One example of this is the e-scripting initiative that MedEDI® and Practice Perfect have with iCanScript. Submission of the electronic script from our software to participating pharmacies via cloud computing ensures script accuracy, legibility, and line-by-line ICD10 coding per item on the script. Doctors participating in this initiative also share in the revenues deriving from transmission of the anonymised prescription data. Medical EDI Services is proud to be associated with ASAIPA. We look forward to sharing thoughts and ideas with its executives and members to improve service delivery, and would welcome any enquiry into our suite of products.
