ACADEMIC APPEAL FORM
Have you read and consulted a copy of the Academic Appeals Regulations 2015-16? Yes / No
Specify the decision of the Examination Board/Research Degrees Quality Committee against which you are appealing (eg award of Third Class Honours, Fail and withdraw)
Specify the grounds (as stated in the Academic Appeal Regulations) under which you are making this
appeal
(Please indicate all grounds that apply) a) There exist extenuating circumstances, affecting the student’s performance, of which the
Faculty Exam Board, Research Degrees Quality Committee or Panel of Examiners/Assessors was not aware when it took its decision and which the student was unable or unwilling to bring to the attention of the Faculty Exam Board, Research Degrees Quality Committee or Panel of
Examiners/Assessors in advance.
(NB: The Extenuating Circumstances Policy makes clear that students should inform the University or partner if they have extenuating circumstances affecting their performance at the time, so appellants shall be required to submit compelling evidence in their Appeal Statement explaining why they did not follow the Policy.) b) The University did not follow its regulations, policies or processes and this procedural irregularity, which as a result has disadvantaged the appellant, was significant enough to have materially affected the decision made, rendering it unsound. c) There is evidence of prejudice or bias on the part of one or more of the examiners.
What would you wish the outcome of your appeal to be?
(eg permission to retake/repeat assessments or year of study. Please note that this will be taken into consideration, if your appeal is upheld, but there is no guarantee that this will be the outcome.)
In signing this form, I certify that the information given on this form, in the Statement of Appeal below and in the supporting documentation and evidence is correct, to the best of my knowledge, and I understand that appropriate staff will have access to the information provided on this form and in any supporting documentation.
