Oral Language Project: Biome Due Monday, December 1st Standards: Life Science: 3a,b,c,d and Listening/speaking 3.4 You will need to select one biome to research. Make your selection from the following biomes: -grassland -arctic tundra -tropical rain forest -deciduous forest -desert -wetlands -freshwater *Only 5 students/biome will be approved. Get your request in quickly. Remember, you pick just one biome to research and report on. You will need to research and report on your biome’s: 1. climate 3. Plants 5.plant adaptations (at least one) 2. soil 4. Animals 6. Animal adaptations (at least one) Reading: You may use your Science textbook, other reference books, encyclopedias, magazine articles, and/or the internet to read about and research your biome. Use the attached organizer to organize information that will help you write your report. Writing: You will need to write a report about your biome. You must include information from each of the 6 six areas. Make sure you revise your rough draft. Make it sound better with rich vocabulary and using a different word to begin each sentence. Do not use “dead words” like so, cool, nice, good, etc. Also, use CUPS to edit your rough draft. Use what you know about writing a topic sentence and the use of transition words. The final copy should be neatly written or typed by you. You must turn in your written work (organizer, informal outline, rough draft, corrections, and final written draft). Please DO NOT put your work in a fancy folder. Simply staple the pages together with the neatly written or typed final draft on top. Visual: You will design a shoe box biome that demonstrates what you have learned. Your visual will assist you in presenting your oral report. It should be a reminder to you of all the information that you need to share. The visual should give your audience (your classmates and me) information from each of the requirements listed on your organizer. You will not read your report to the class, so the visual needs to be complete. ***Please note: No other visuals will be accepted. Be creative and neat! Oral Presentation: All project requirements are Due on Dec. 1 (written work and visual) You will present on your specific given date. You may use note cards to glance at, but will not have your report to read. I encourage you to practice in front of your family and/or in front of a mirror. I have attached the oral presentation rubric that will be used to grade your presentation. The following is the timeline that must be followed. Turn in your assignment on or before the due date. Future assignments will not be accepted without having turned in the previous assignment. (ex. If you do not turn in your informal outline, your rough draft will not be accepted) Visuals will not be accepted without the written assignment.
