RC Garnett Demonstration Elementary School PAC
The Parent Advisory Council of RC Garnett Demonstration Elem. School is very supportive of
students within to continue their post-secondary education and recognizes the high cost of
achieving this goal. The Parent Advisory Council will grant a $500 Scholarship to a graduating
student in the Langley School District.
Criteria
1. The Student must have completed their elementary education from RC Garnett Elem.
And have attended RC Garnett for a minimum of two years.
2. The Student must be a resident of Langley.
3. The Student must be starting their post-secondary (university, college, technical or trade
school) studies within one year of graduation.
4. The Scholarship will be used for payment of tuition, textbook purchase, or other
program related expenses (i.e.: special equipment).
Application
a. A one-page essay describing your involvement/experience in volunteer and community
groups.
b. A copy of your Grade 11 and all available Grade 12 report cards.
c. Two general character letters of reference (i.e.: neighbor, teacher, coach, minister,
employer – no family letter will be accepted).
d. One character letter of reference from the community organization you were involved
with.

2013 Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program
Monsanto Canada estimates it will provide approximately 65
scholarships to deserving high school students across the country
entering their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture at a
Canadian college or university. Each scholarship is valued at $1,500 and will be awarded to
students who meet the following criteria:
o Students must be from a family farming operation with plans to enter their first year of
post-secondary education in agriculture at a Canadian college or university
o Students must have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership capabilities and
active involvement in their local community
o Complete applications, including an application essay, must be post-marked no later
than May 24, 2014

Otter Farm & Home Co-operative
Otter Farm & Home Co-operative is offering seven $1,000.00 open
scholarships to grade twelve students whose immediate family
(parent/grandparent/guardians) have been active members of Otter Co-op for more than one
year and whose purchases during the previous year were in excess of $2,000.
Rules & Regulations
 Deadline for handing in scholarship applications is April 30th, 2014
 The applicant’s immediate family member must be an active member of Otter Co-op for
a min. of one year.
 No restrictions as to field of study or post secondary institution.
 The scholarship is to be used within twelve months of being awarded.
 A letter of acceptance
 Please write a minimum 250 word essay on the following topic:
What the Co-op means to me.

HEADING TO POST-SECONDARY? OUR BURSARY CAN HELP!
We’re proud to offer a bursary program for young people under 19. We know the teen years are
when mental health and substance use problems often show up for the first time, and that this not
only gets in the way of life, but also your school and career goals.
The Janice Lee Blue Wave Bursary honours the legacy of Janice Lee, an 18-year-old who
struggled with depression and anxiety for six years and took her own life in 2006. The following
year, Blue Wave was created by her family to help break the silence around mental illness in
teens and to provide support earlier. The vision of the Janice Lee Blue Wave bursary program is
to invest in the resilience, wisdom and potential of young people and to reduce some of the
barriers during the major transition from high school to higher education.
In 2014 we will be awarding a maximum of two $700 awards.
The deadline for applications is May 15, 2014.
Am I eligible?
You’re eligible if you:






Have experienced a significant mental health or substance use problem and are accessing
treatment and support
Can demonstrate financial need
Are under the age of 19 at the time you apply
Have lived in BC for at least a year from the date of your application
Are not enrolling in a government-sponsored job training program
Will be enrolled in first year studies at a recognized BC university, college or technical
school by January 1, 2015

The Betty Spalton Scholarship Program
The Betty Spalton Scholarship Program is sponsored by the BC Road Builders & Heavy
Construction Association. Scholarships are awarded to individuals obtaining an education in
fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry.
The key objective of the fund is to encourage diversity I the industry,
with preference given to females and/or members of minority groups.
Who may apply?






Canadian citizens only.
Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road
maintenance or heavy construction.
Individuals enrolled in studies either full or part time at any BC college, university or
technical institute.
Individuals returning back to school to upgrade their skills and knowledge.
Individuals already working in the industry who are taking the program to upgrade their
skills and knowledge.
Student must enroll and complete a Road Builders training program at one of the
participating colleges or training institutes.
How to apply:



Submit a 500 word essay explaining your interest in obtaining an education in the field
Provide an official copy of transcripts from secondary and post-secondary institutions
attended. (if any)
Provide a short resume.
 Up to two $1,500 scholarship will be awarded in BC
 Applications must be received by July 31st.

CONDITIONAL ADMISSION OFFERS
As your students are starting to receive conditional admission offers, they may start to have
questions about what to do next. Here are a few answers to those frequently asked questions:




How do I accept my offer? You accept your offer online through your Student Centre
(my.ucalgary.ca).
When is the deadline to accept my offer? There is no deadline. However, you must
accept your offer in order to register for classes.
When do I register for classes? New first year students who have accepted their
conditional admission offers can expect to receive a registration time starting from May
26th-30th. First Year Scholars will have an earlier registration date.
Do I have to pay a deposit? No. Tuition deposits are not required this year.
GUARANTEED RESIDENCE
The Guaranteed Residence application deadline is April 30, 2014. Don’t let your students miss
out on the opportunity to live in Rundle or Kananaskis Hall! More information on Residence can
