Grad Update April 2014 RC Garnett Demonstration Elementary School PAC The Parent Advisory Council of RC Garnett Demonstration Elem. School is very supportive of students within to continue their post-secondary education and recognizes the high cost of achieving this goal. The Parent Advisory Council will grant a $500 Scholarship to a graduating student in the Langley School District. Criteria 1. The Student must have completed their elementary education from RC Garnett Elem. And have attended RC Garnett for a minimum of two years. 2. The Student must be a resident of Langley. 3. The Student must be starting their post-secondary (university, college, technical or trade school) studies within one year of graduation. 4. The Scholarship will be used for payment of tuition, textbook purchase, or other program related expenses (i.e.: special equipment). Application a. A one-page essay describing your involvement/experience in volunteer and community groups. b. A copy of your Grade 11 and all available Grade 12 report cards. c. Two general character letters of reference (i.e.: neighbor, teacher, coach, minister, employer – no family letter will be accepted). d. One character letter of reference from the community organization you were involved with. Deadline: April 30th, 2014 1 2013 Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program Monsanto Canada estimates it will provide approximately 65 scholarships to deserving high school students across the country entering their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture at a Canadian college or university. Each scholarship is valued at $1,500 and will be awarded to students who meet the following criteria: o Students must be from a family farming operation with plans to enter their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture at a Canadian college or university o Students must have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership capabilities and active involvement in their local community o Complete applications, including an application essay, must be post-marked no later than May 24, 2014 Applications are available in the Counselling Office Otter Farm & Home Co-operative Otter Farm & Home Co-operative is offering seven $1,000.00 open scholarships to grade twelve students whose immediate family (parent/grandparent/guardians) have been active members of Otter Co-op for more than one year and whose purchases during the previous year were in excess of $2,000. The Janice Lee Blue Wave Bursary honours the legacy of Janice Lee, an 18-year-old who struggled with depression and anxiety for six years and took her own life in 2006. The following year, Blue Wave was created by her family to help break the silence around mental illness in teens and to provide support earlier. The vision of the Janice Lee Blue Wave bursary program is to invest in the resilience, wisdom and potential of young people and to reduce some of the barriers during the major transition from high school to higher education. Scholarships are awarded to individuals obtaining an education in fields associated with the road building and heavy construction industry. The key objective of the fund is to encourage diversity I the industry, with preference given to females and/or members of minority groups. Who may apply? Canadian citizens only. Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance or heavy construction. Individuals enrolled in studies either full or part time at any BC college, university or technical institute. Individuals returning back to school to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Individuals already working in the industry who are taking the program to upgrade their skills and knowledge. Student must enroll and complete a Road Builders training program at one of the participating colleges or training institutes.
