September 1, 2015 Juniata College 1700 Moore Street Huntingdon, PA 16652 Dear Parents of Juniata College Student-Athletes, We are pleased to have a member of your family as a student-athlete representing Juniata College and the Landmark Conference. This conference was formed by a group of like-minded Chief Executive Officers and Athletics Directors who believe strongly that athletics are an integral and educational part of every student-athlete’s college experience. Parents are an important part of our athletics family. As part of our family, we are reaching out to you regarding the behavioral expectations that we at Juniata, and at all Landmark Conference members, have for fans attending our games. If you are the parent of a returning student-athlete, you may recall that our conference placed an emphasis on sportsmanship last year, and we have decided to continue our focus on sportsmanship for the coming year. Fair and respectful conduct toward all participants and supporters is a tenet of Division III, one that we at Juniata, and as a member of the Landmark, strive to achieve at all times. As parents, please help us promote good sportsmanship and civility at our sporting events by being a visible part of setting the appropriate behavioral example. Along with the high expectations the Landmark’s Athletics Directors have for coaches and student-athletes regarding respect and conduct, we need your assistance in promoting a respectful, positive, and fun atmosphere so that everyone can enjoy every game. These are our principles for fans attending our events: Support our family - cheer for our team, not against our opponent Do not get personal in your comments about players, coaches, or officials No profanity, vulgarity, racist, or sexist comments Treat fellow fans and event staff with respect Give players, coaches and officials their space by keeping away from the playing and team bench areas Fans not in compliance with these principles may be removed from the event site While games, matches, and meets can become intense, we are asking, as a conference, for members of our extended Landmark family to display class and maturity – even in the most competitive of environments. These ideals are paramount to us and trump any particular play, result, or box score. If you experience a fan violating the spirit of these principles, please inform an on-site administrator so that the issue can be addressed. These principles are shared by all Landmark members, so when you travel to support our team, please remember to follow these guidelines. Our teams greatly appreciate the ways in which you support them, including your efforts to provide food and other amenities to the players after a game. Each Landmark campus is unique, so please understand that when you visit another facility, be respectful of event staff and know that they may not be able to accommodate your needs for space, electricity, or other items for your post-game activities. If you have questions or need help, please speak first with your team’s coaches. We know how much you love to support your children and your desire to watch them succeed. Help us succeed in creating a great atmosphere at our events and great experiences for our student-athletes by following these principles. Thanks for your continued support of the Eagles and the Landmark Conference. Greg Curley Director of Athletics Juniata College Daniel A. Fisher Commissioner Landmark Conference
