I hope that the spring season is going well for all of you and that your families are healthy. We have many things scheduled for the month of May. Students in grade 3-5 will be taking the End of Year PARCC assessment. Students in grades 3 and 5 will take the assessment May 4, 6, and 7 and students in grade 4 will take the assessment on May 12, 13, and 14. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, 2015. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of our teachers and support staff for their commitment and dedication to the students and community of Glen Burnie Park Elementary School. Field Day is scheduled for Friday, May 8 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM. On Tuesday, May 12, we will have our Spring Concert at 7:00 PM at Old Mill High School. Our Spring Book Fair will be held during school hours the week of May 18-22. On Wednesday, May 20, we will have our evening Spring Book Fair/Art Show/Ice Cream Social event from 6-7 PM. Pre-kindergarten parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, May 20 - Friday, May 22. There will be no school for pre-kindergarten students on these days. Kindergarten parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, May 21and Friday, May 22. There will be no school for kindergarten students on these days. The last day of school for students will be Thursday, June 18, 2015. Two-hour early dismissals are scheduled for June 15-18, 2015. Our grade 5 promotion will be held on Thursday, June 18 at 9:00 AM. Zablonski Staff Congratulations Congratulations to Ms. Melissa Phoebus, Grade 1 teacher, who will be recognized with an Educational Excellence Award by the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce on May 14, 2015 at Michael’s Eighth Avenue. Jump Rope for Heart Thank you to Mr. Jones, PE teacher, for organizing the Jump Rope for Heart to benefit the American Heart Association. Thank you to all of our students and families for donating to this event. Glen Burnie Park Elementary School raised $5,092.11 for the American Heart Association. Spring Music Concert The Instrumental and Chorus Music Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 7:00 PM. It will be held at Old Mill High School again this year. Book Fair/Ice Cream Social/Art Show On Wednesday, May 20, from 6-7 PM, our PTO will be sponsoring an Ice Cream Social. Our Spring Book Fair will also be held that evening. The Book Fair will be held in the Media Center and the Ice Cream Social will be held in the cafeteria. Student art work will be displayed throughout the building for everyone to view and enjoy. We hope you will join us! Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Parent/Teacher Conferences Pre-Kindergarten conferences will be held on three days, May 20-22. There will be no classes for pre-kindergarten students on these days. On Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22, parent/teacher kindergarten conferences will be held. Kindergarten students will not have classes on these days. Classes for students in grades 1-5 will be held. Math-a-Thon for Relay for Life All students will be participating in a Math-a-Thon on Tuesday, May 26. This will take place during school time in the morning. Please considering pledging your child or making a donation to benefit our Relay for Life team that supports the American Cancer Society. Thank You NAACCC Foundation Thank you to the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce Foundation for awarding Glen Burnie Park Elementary School with a STEM grant. Mr. Ed Connelly, from the Bank of Glen Burnie, presented the grant to Mrs. Joanie Gulden, math resource teacher, and Ms. Zablonski, principal. The grant funds will be used to support our STEM day planned for June 5.
