SOBRAMID and WIP Section Brazil created In October 2012, SOBRAMID - Brazilian Society of Interventional Pain Practitioners - was founded. The goal of the society is to promote and disseminate the development and practice of interventional pain management techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of pain-related conditions. The creation of WIP Section Brazil has furthered the growth of interventional pain medicine in Brazil. Through joint actions of its members, SOBRAMID and WIP section Brazil aim to advance interventional pain medicine in Brazil to world-level standards of excellence, providing increasingly safe, accessible and efficient pain management. First SOBRAMID Congress SOBRAMID’s first important action took place in Campinas on May 16-17 when over 80 members from several regions of Braziland different parts of Latin America convened for the first time. The theme of the meeting was “State-of-the-Art in Radiofrequency” and the highlight Dr. Menno Sluijter, University of Maastricht professor and senior WIP member, who chaired the convention. Hands-On Cadaver Workshop With all 32 places filled the first ever cadaver workshop for Latin American pain doctors was held July 18-20 at the Miami Anatomical Research Center. The event was organized by WIP section Brazil in association with SOBRAMID, with the support of Singular Centro de Controle da Dor, the only EPP award pain center in Brazil. Participants learned the theory then practiced hands on the interventional pain procedures they had been taught. Training was conducted by influential names in the field of interventional pain medicine in Latin America: Dr. Ricardo Plancarte from Mexico, and Drs. Fabrício Assis, Charles Oliveira, Luciano Braun, and Adriano Scaff from Brazil. Weighing in with their expertise and knowledge were Dr. Ricardo Ruiz Lopes, outgoing WIP President, and Drs. Gabor Racz visit In early July, WIP section Brazil had the pleasure of hosting the illustrious Dr. Gabor Racz, Texas Tech professor and former WIP president. During his visit to Campinas, São Paulo, Dr. Racz gave several lectures and conducted a pain procedures workshop for doctors taking part in module 3 of the Singular Centro de Controle da Dor pain course. Charles Oliveira, Gabor Racz, Fabrício Assis Theoretical and Practical Training Course by Singular In August, the last module of the third edition of the successful Theoretical and Hands-on Interventional Training Course took place. Organized by Singular Centro de Controle da Dor, the 7-module course trains doctors in the major interventional pain management procedures. Enrollment is currently open for the fourth edition of the course with classes scheduled from February to November. The course offers 14 seats for orthopedists, anesthesiologists and neurosurgeons wishing to update their skills in interventional pain medicine, and covers theory and practice of techniques. The upcoming edition will have two additional training modules: US-guided procedures and regenerative pain techniques.
