Your exam will consist of 16 picture essays for a total of 105 points. Your exam was
constructed from questions on worksheets, labs, warm ups, test, and quizzes completed during
the first semester of the school year.
Exam Order:

Igneous Intrusions – 4 questions - identify a sill, dike, batholith, and laccolith – see page
125 in textbook.
2. Sedimentary Rock Profile – 6 questions – see sedimentary rock profile lab.
3. Mineral Hardness – 7 questions – know how it works – see hardness scale warm up or
page 106.
4. Soil Profile – 7 questions – locate A Horizon, B Horizon, C Horizon, O Horizon,
Bedrock, Subsoil and Topsoil. See Soil Profile Notes and Lab.
5. River System – 9 questions – locate the parts of a river system – see river system
worksheet.
6. Density – 5 questions – know formula (mass divided by volume) for density and be able
to calculate density. Identify sinking objects as more dense and floating objects as less
dense – see density lab and density note sheet.
7. Latitude and Longitude – 6 questions – plot points on a world map – see viewpoint
worksheet.
8. Time Zones – 5 questions - know the four times zones in the United States and the
differences in time between them. Understand the 24 worldwide time zones – see time
zone lab.

9. Rock Cycle – 4 questions – use various terms of the rock cycle to complete a concept
map – see rock cycle handout.
10. Groundwater Features – 6 questions – identify various features of groundwater, including
karst topography and artesian well – see groundwater worksheet.
11. Topographic Maps – 7 questions – know contour interval, sea level, elevations,
steep/gentle slopes, water flow speed/direction, and depressions – see intro to
contour/topo map worksheet.
12. Branches of Earth Science – 8 questions - identify job descriptions of a geologist,
astronomer, meteorologist, and oceanographer – see branches of earth science note sheet
or pages 35 – 37 in book.
13. Scientific Method – 7 questions – given an experiment – identify variable, dependent
variable, constant, control, and create a hypothesis statement – see intro quiz.
14. Sedimentary/Metamorphic rocks – 9 points – understand the classification of sedimentary
and metamorphic rocks – know what types of sedimentary rocks form metamorphic rocks
in completion of a concept map – see metamorphic rock worksheet.
15. Scientific Investigation – 5 questions – checking to see if you can use a graph to answer a
series of questions.
16. Rock Identification – 10 questions – identify the following rocks as igneous, sedimentary,
or metamorphic – shale, gneiss, slate, conglomerate, basalt, limestone, sandstone, granite,
marble, and obsidian – see classy rock worksheet.
