Welcome and Context
[Ring bells]
Welcome everyone—friends and family—to this
occasion to witness and bless the marriage of Kristin
and Stephen.
"There is no truth higher than love. There is no destiny
more profound than union with the divine."
Today is a celebration of love and union and destiny.
May all of us here open to the blessing of this day. And
may all of us reconnect to the vows we hold most
sacred.
I would like to share a poem from Hafiz:
Birds initially had no desire to fly,
What really happened was this:
God once sat close to them playing Music.
When He left, They missed Him so much
Their great longing sprouted wings…needing to
search the sky.
Listen. … Hafiz knows:
Nothing evolves us like Love.

Song: A personal choice, if you have someone
in your circle who wants to sing your special song?
III.
Kristin and Stephen Sharing
This is what a previous wedding had. Your choice to
keep, change, or slash.
Kristin and Stephen now want to share with all of us, as
they share with each other, an articulation of what they
mean to each other. AND NEITHER HAS HEARD
THE OTHER’S WORDS BEFORE.

Sermon about Marriage
Dear Kristin and Stephen,
In this ceremony of marrying your lives together, you
are celebrating Life's most mysterious drama: the
merging of separateness into oneness. Your
commitment today is a mutual surrender to a life of
greater possibilities and potentials than have been
available to you as individuals. A life of love and
commitment is indeed the divine made manifest
From this day onward you must come closer than
ever before; you must love one another in sickness and
in health, for better and for worse, but at the same time
your love should give you the strength to seek out your
unique destinies, to make your special contribution to
the world which is always part of us and more than us.
I would like at this time to speak of some of the things
which men and women, in all times, have aspired to and
held as their highest dreams. I express them to you as
WISHES coming from your family and friends.
First of all, we wish for you a LOVE that makes both of
you better people, that continues to give you joy and
zest for living, that provides you with energy to face the
responsibilities of life.
We wish for you a home--not a place of stone and
wood, but an island of serenity in a frenzied world. We
hope that this home is not just a place of private joy and
retreat, but rather serves as a temple wherein the values
of your life are generated and upheld. We hope that your
home stands as a symbol of humans living together in
love and peace. We hope that your home encompasses
the beauty of nature--that is has within it the elements of
simplicity, exuberance, beauty, silence, color, and a
concordance with the rhythms of life. We wish for you
a home with books and poetry and music--a home with
all the things that represent the highest strivings of men
and women.
We wish for you children—children who will not be
only a reflection of yourselves but will learn from you
your best traits and will go forth and re-create the values
you shall have shared. We hope that you will give your
children the freedom to find their own way, that you
will stand by them when they need you and will stand
aside when it is time for them to seek their personal
destinies. But we hope you will pass on to your children
the concept of family as a fundamental bond which
brings people close in times of joy and in times of need.
Finally, we wish that at the end of your lives you will
be able to say these two things to each other: BECAUSE
YOU HAVE LOVED ME, YOU HAVE GIVEN ME A
FAITH IN MYSELF; AND BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN
THE GOOD IN YOU, I HAVE RECEIVED FROM
YOU A FAITH IN HUMANITY.

The Vows
A. Stephen’s vows
B. Kristin’s vows
You may write your own or use:
I, STEPHEN, TAKE YOU, KRISTIN, TO BE MY WIFE.
I TRUST, RESPECT AND CHERISH YOU.
YOUR CLEAR MIND, YOUR OPEN HEART AND YOUR
SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE NOURISHES MY SOUL.
THIS MARRIAGE TO YOU IS MY GREATEST BLESSING--A
CHANCE TO SAY YES; YES TO A LIFE OF LAUGHTER
PLAY AND DANCE.
I, KRISTIN, TAKE YOU, STEPHEN, TO BE MY HUSBAND.
VI.
Rings
Now may we have the rings, please.
These rings represent the wholeness and complete
harmony that love offers; and they symbolize that love
is eternal. There is no beginning and there is no
end...only this infinite moment that your natures' share.
Stephen: With this ring I thee wed. Wear it always as a
symbol of my love and devotion.
Kristin: With this ring I thee wed. Wear it always as a
symbol of my love and devotion.
VII. Poem of Blessing
This Marriage by Rumi
May these vows and this marriage be blessed.
May it be sweet milk, this marriage, like wine and
halvah.
May this marriage offer fruit and shade
like the date palm.
May this marriage be like friends
Laughing together for days on end.
May this marriage be a sign of compassion,
a seal of happiness -- here and hereafter.
May this marriage have a fair face and a good
name -- an omen as welcome as the moon in a
clear blue sky.
May this marriage be silence
Fully mixed with spirit.
VIII. Pronouncement of Marriage & the Kiss
Now, according to the forms of solemnization of
marriage, but most of all by the power of your own love,
I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the
bride!
