Course Description:
The course is designed with the intent to effectively teach Spanish and the Hispanic culture to students who do not
speak nor understand any Spanish or who may have a very limited understanding of it. The course curriculum will
follow national and state standards {TEKS}, as well as the Dallas I.S.D. set benchmarks. The focus will be on
introducing and creating student’s skills in: listening, speaking, and writing which will reinforce the skill of reading.
Spanish I is a two-semester course. Texas requires 2 credit years of the same foreign language for graduation.

1. Be in class daily & on time.
2. Bring all materials needed to every class session.
3. Participate in class. {No Exceptions}
4. Turn in all work & homework when due.
5. Apply what was learned in class at home daily for at least ½ hr.
6. Practice speaking Spanish outside the class with friends & family.
7. Follow all DISD and Mountain View College rules daily.
1. Writing paper / binder or folder for class
2. Pen [black or blue ink only]
3. Personal English-Spanish dictionary [Required]
4. Spanish book *
5. Flashdrive or jumpdrive
* It is the student’s responsibility to have their Spanish book with them!
Attendance Policy (Tardy)
Garza E.C.H.S. Students are expected to be in class daily and on time.
*A student will be marked TARDY within the first 15min. of missed class time. (ex. 9:01-9:14)
*A student will be marked ABSENT after the first 15min. of missed class time. (ex. 9:15 +)
1st tardy = Student will receive a verbal warning
2nd tardy = Student will be written up and parent phone call
3rd tardy = Student’s parent will be called and student will be assigned to Friday Night Bites or teacher discipline.
Credit Denial: A days: 6+ days absence per semester B days: 4+ days absence per semester
Grading Scale:
Student should keep track of grades and absences (4 per sem.) The following scale will be used as per DISD policy.





40% = Active class engagement / Daily act. / Homework / Dialogues
25% = Quizzes / Tests (Written, Kinesthetic, Verbal)
20% = Worksheets/ Projects/ Presentations/Reports/Research Papers
15%= Six Weeks Exam
Daily attendance = priceless
Tutoring:
MWF 3:30 -4:00pm / TR 3:30-4:00pm

Make-up Work & Late work:
Student is responsible for work missed while absent from class {illness, doctor, athletics, etc.}
*Student will be responsible & attend tutoring to obtain and make-up work missed. Student will
be given 3 days from day missed to make-up any work, quiz, test, etc… or student will have
chosen to take a failing grade which will affect overall grade average. Student’s responsibility.
**If student is truant {“skipping class”} or has an unexcused absence he/she MUST make up
work within 3days and 35 points will be automatically deducted from grade earned.
Late work is not expected, but will be accepted with 10pts. off @ day. (Due date counts as day one.)
This is a college-ready course student must adhere to higher expectations NO EXCUSES!
Accountability: This is a work-ready and/or a College-ready program, therefore, all students
are held responsible and accountable for meeting all class expectations. Hard-work ethic and
high ambition are expected.
You chose to be a part of our elite program, therefore you have chosen to work hard and
make little or NO excuses. Apathy & laziness are not welcomed in this program.
