The Arc of Mississippi works to include all children and adults with
cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities in every community.
We focus on abilities, respect, choice for all and encourage active
citizenship and inclusion in every community.
°One of every ten families in America has a member with an intellectual and
developmental disability.
°There are more than 7.5 million people in the U.S. with an intellectual and
developmental disability.
°Cognitive/intellectual disability is a condition, not a disease.
The Arc works to ensure that people with intellectual
and developmental disabilities and their families have
the supports they need to live an ordinary, decent American life.
LONGVIEW HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH –
Our Mission Statement:
“The Four Friends Special Needs Ministry of Longview Heights Baptist Church exists to create a faith
community within the special needs community by demonstrating the love of Christ in a safe and
appropriate environment and equipping the church body to minister to and with the special needs
individual and their families so that all may experience knowing Christ, loving people, and reaching the
world for Him.”
Weekly Events:
SUNDAY MORNINGS-The foundation of all we do at LHBC is our Sunday School ministry. Beginning at
9:00 your student will be a part of a small group led by a loving and caring teacher. Stories from the Bible
will be presented in an appropriate and fun manner allowing your student to see how to apply Biblical
truth to his or her own life. Spiritual discipleship will take place and new friendships will grow. It's always a
family's choice where their student is served and we have provided a safe and appropriate environment
for those who need special accommodations.
(Students who are not able to attend worship services with their families are invited to remain with us
through Extended Teaching Care where volunteers will help to enhance and build on the lesson they
learned during the Sunday school hour.)
SUNDAY EVENINGS (while school is in session)-Our students are encouraged to join our "Good News
Guild." This program is a talent outlet in which students of all ages and abilities learn to share the Good
News through hand bells, mimes, white glove ministry, silent skits, and much more.
WEDNESDAY EVENINGS-Friendship Club meets on Wednesdays in the department from 630-730. Our
focus is on missions and includes supervised off-campus activities designed to serve others in our
community.
Parents Night Out
Parents Night Out (PNO) meets the third Friday of each month. Families can bring their special needs
loved one and any siblings in the home that require adult supervision for free respite care from 6:30-
10:00 pm. A completed registration packet is required prior to first visit. Contact Rita Powell by
