Discuss with local teachers, the idea of a competition for local primary & secondary students

Make application for Grant with Department of Internal Affairs

Design a poster advertising the competition for school students. Discuss with teachers, the rules for the competition and the media that can be used.
Meet with Director of Percy Thomson Gallery & Archives Officer at Stratford District Council

Start to compile biographical notes and photos of WW1 servicemen and women from Central
Taranaki
Meet with Archives Officer at Stratford District Council
March 2014
Send out posters advertising the School students’ competition to the Central Taranaki Schools.
Also, send them a “My WW1 Ancestor” lesson plan (as many schools will be planning an Anzac
Day unit).
Invite schools to use Branch resources for research.
Meet with Director of Percy Thomson Gallery & Archives Officer at Stratford District Council

Approach some local people to judge the schools’ competition
Continue to compile biographical notes and photos of WW1 servicemen and women from
Central Taranaki
Letter to the Editor of local newspaper inviting local families with WW1 servicemen to become involved in the display.
Meet with Director of Percy Thomson Gallery & Archives Officer at Stratford District Council

Contact schools inviting them to submit competition entries.
Meet with Director of Percy Thomson Art Gallery to discuss layout of display area and their/our requirements eg glass cabinets for displaying family memorabilia.
Plan the “Opening Night” at Branch meeting
Meet with local RSA representative to arrange to borrow white crosses etc.
Invite Mayor (or other) to open the display and other speakers
Place details of display in “What’s Coming Up” section of local newspaper
June 2014
Invite schools to book to view the display and the competition entries.

30 th Schools’ competition closes

Opening night invitations to be sent out

Planning meeting for refreshments etc for Opening Night.

Set up displays

Display to be open every day for 3 weeks
After the final day, dismantle the display & return borrowed items
