7th Grade-Dark Knights School-Parent-Student Compact South Hall Middle School 2015-2016 Dear Parent/Guardian, South Hall Middle School students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement as well as describes how school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement. Hall County School District Goals: -In the middle schools, increase percentage of middle school students who earn Carnegie units; by 2020 90% of students earn one unit and 70% of students earn two or more units. -Increase average CCRPI scores at least two points annually at 70% or more of HCSD schools. CCRPI scores will increase at least 2 points for HCSD elementary, middle and high schools. South Hall Middle School’s Goals: As well as the middle school competency goals of our district, we will focus on: -Students taking reasonable risks in responding, extending, questioning, and/or producing rigorous products - Students interacting with and attempt higher level, meaningful tasks. -Students using critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using accessible technology tools and resources. The 7th grade team will provide high quality curriculum and work with students and their families to support students’ success in all academic areas. Some of our key connections with families will be: Communicate with parents regularly through phone call, text, email, “Good News” postcards, newsletters, conferences or teacher pages to inform parents of unit goals, content concepts, and student achievement Our teacher webpages will have current resources to give assistance to students and parents at home with homework including: class resources, videos, vocabulary, and links to online lessons. A language translator app will be available on teacher webpages to help parents with their understanding of the materials presented in class. Teachers will provide notice of upcoming unit/summative assessments through student agenda, email, teacher page calendars, and/or text messages. Help parents understand curriculum content through subject area workshops and provide webinars or DVDs to parents that cannot attend. Teachers will continually work on teaching strategies to successfully accommodate all learners At Home Knight Students How Can You Help Your Child Succeed? Communicate with teachers if your child seems to be struggling in an academic area Establish a routine at home to check student agenda, complete homework, study notes and vocabulary, read assigned novel or book of choice, and/or work on teacher approved websites to practice skills (if internet is available). Learn to access students’ codes to check Infinite Campus, IXL, math and science online textbooks, teacher pages and other online resources. Provide updated phone numbers, address, and email addresses. Sign and return all school documents requiring parent signature How Can I, the Student, Succeed? Actively participate in class by writing in my agenda, asking questions, and coming prepared to learn. Follow the South Hall Way Know my online codes and passwords in order to check grades and access online resources (i.e. IXL, Reading Plus, USA Test Prep) Use my established home routine to prepare for assessments, complete assignments, and read. Throughout the School Year We welcome parents to come and eat lunch with their children and for conferences when a parent, teacher, or student has a need, and we provide a parent liaison for Spanish speakers. The School Council reviews programs and concerns, and approves each grade level’s teacher-parent-student compact that outlines how all will share the responsibility to increase student achievement.
