Now draw three stick men on the board all different sizes. And
a table on the right with two columns. Write syllable at the top
of the right hand column and 1, Y ,2> under the heading.

Demonstrate what a syllable is by counting out various words
with your fingers. Ask the STS how many syllables does
‘English’ have.
Draw this table elicit words from comparisons between the
stick men. Write an example sentence on the board “Bob is
smaller than Mr. Smith.”

Hand out Worksheet1.3 . Ask STS to complete exercise 1 by
demonstrating two words and showing them where to write the
words in the table. STS do task 1

Now present various pictures of celebrities and elicit sentences
from the class in an open class. Write the sentences on
various strips of paper.

Fun practice
Telephone. Make sure STS are sitting in lines with the same
number of STS in each line. Provide the writer at the front with
some chalk. Divide the board into columns, one column for
each team. Now give each student sitting at the end of a line a
strip of paper with a sentence, they are the Readers. They
read the sentence and tell the next ST inline who in turn tells
the next, until the writer knows the sentence. The first team to
write the sentence on the board is the winner, (uneven teams
ask one ST to be the judge) ask each ST to move up one seat
and play the game again assigning a different strip to each
team.
