Mathematics Reasoning 7th
Currently, Student is demonstrating difficulty with Mathematics Reasoning. He was recently assessed with AIMSweb (MCAP)
Mathematics Concepts and Applications (a timed, multiple skill mathematics reasoning test) at the student’s actual grade level (not
instructional level). At that 7th grade level, Student had 4 correct digits placed in answers. This compares to typical grade level
performance of 13 correct digits in the fall of 7th grade based on the 50th percentile of the AIMSweb national aggregate using a
TIMED assessment. In comparison to typical grade level peers, His score falls between the first and tenth percentile
Student was also given the second and third grade probes for math application. Student was given this assessment UNTIMED. He
scored near the top of the class of his peers who also have Mild Cognitive Impairments. He performed at the average range on the
second grade probe (as measured against his peers in the C.I. Program) and performed above the average range on the third grade
probe (as measured against his peers in the C.I. Program). This indicates that his instructional level is at the third grade level.
Student has difficulty with “time concepts” such as calculating elapsed time (with half hour) and with problem-solving items that
require “abstract reasoning” or problems that require multi-steps to solve. His strengths are in the areas of measurement and
computation. Based on these assessments, Student needs modifications in order to be successful in the Mild CI curriculum.
Standards Addressed With MCAP:
7th: N.MR.07.02, N.FL.07.09, G.TR.07.04, A.PA.07.01, A.RP.07.02, A.PA.07.04, D.RE.07.01, D.AN.07.02, D.AN.07.03,
D.AN.07.04
Classroom assignments and assessments indicate that Student has great difficulty in the following skills:
identifying place value, writing number as words (skill needed for writing checks), understanding budgeting
concepts (calculating income, deducting expenses etc.) calculating elapsed time that includes half-hours, and
reading a work schedule.
