Committee Name Committee Description A standing committee of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Education and the Workforce Committee’s purpose is to ensure that Americans’ needs are addressed so that students and workers may move forward in a changing school system and a competitive global economy. The Committee on Ways and Means is the chief taxwriting committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Committee has jurisdiction over all taxation, tariffs, and other revenue-raising measures, as well as programs such as Social Security and Medicare.
