We have read a story called Sailing Home. It’s about a girl and her family and their life living on a boat. Did you know that the front of a boat is called a stern and the back is called the bow? A sailboat depends on the wind to move. They have a sail sort of like an airplane wing side ways! A sailboat has a wing at the bottom called a keel. Wind comes from the air and pushes the sail one direction and the boat leans. Why doesn’t the boat tip over? Well because, water currents push the keel in the opposite direction witch squeezes the sailboat together from each sides to keep the boat straight. It also squeezes it and pushes it straight ahead. Sometimes a ship can broach, witch means to tip to one side and is in danger of sinking. That’s what we learned about this week in Mrs. Kalvig’s class! Hello, I would like to inform you that we are having a Can Food Drive through December 14, 2012. It doesn’t have to be cans, it can also be oatmeal packs or noodles. The cans will be given to the needy people so they can eat. Student Council will be collecting the cans from each room and will count how many cans each class has. So please bring cans for the Can Food Drive. The class that brings the most cans will win a Pizza Party in their classroom.
