Applications are open to: Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents Only Functional Area: Communication and Information % Client Focus - Internal: 80% % Client Focus - External: 20% Number of Direct Reports: 0 Reports to the: Executive Manager Communication Role Overview: The reshaped CSIRO Communication function works in an agency model where Communication Advisors work closely with Communication Managers on high profile campaigns and projects and apply their skills across a range of accounts to help share CSIRO’s work with the community, industry and government. We currently have a vacancy for a Communication Advisor who will work flexibly on accounts across multiple areas of CSIRO specifically relating to internal and change communication. The successful candidate could be working on projects ranging from environment and energy through to health, agriculture or manufacturing but mainly focussed on internal communication or supporting change projects in the organisation. As a Communication Advisor, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills across a range of activities including drafting strategies, writing articles, pitching stories, reaching new audiences, preparing collateral, coordinating multimedia, evaluating campaigns, posting on social channels and marketing CSIRO’s science. You will play a critical role in helping CSIRO achieve path to impact by building strong relationships with key internal and enterprise clients, business development staff and other stakeholders. Ideally you will possess relevant domain knowledge, or have the ability to work with complex technical information to demonstrate science impact relevant to industry and government, as well as the general community. Duties and Key Result Areas: Establish and maintain relationships with enterprise functions, scientists, BD and other stakeholders to deliver effective service and fulfil Flagships goals as agreed. Under guidance assist with the implementation of communication and change strategies, plans and instructions. Under guidance and instruction deliver planned communications activities in a flexible, adaptive and responsive way. Use contemporary communication techniques and tools to engage audiences and to disseminate and gather information. Enthusiastic approach to learning new skills and experiences and sharing knowledge /lessons within and across teams in order to develop a multi skilled communication team where individuals have more than one area of domain knowledge. Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation. Work collaboratively as a team member or an often regionally dispersed team, to carry out communication tasks in support of scientific research Maintain a philosophy of continuous improvement by looking for opportunities for improvements and making recommendations accordingly Adhere to the spirit and practice of CSIRO’s Values, Health, Safety and Environment plans and policies, Diversity initiatives and Zero Harm goals Selection Criteria: Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed Pre-Requisites: Education/Qualifications: A certificate or tertiary qualification in a relevant area, such as communications and/or relevant work experience. Essential Criteria: 1. Demonstrated experience in drafting and implementing communication plans as agreed and reporting results, with high level writing skills and the ability to formulate communication for a variety of audiences and channels quickly and effectively. 2. Flexibility and eagerness to learn new areas (including scientific topics) and apply communication skills across a range of domains. 3. Basic understanding and experience in one or more of the following areas: Internal communication Change communication Media production Issues and crisis management Professional writing (journalism, speech writing, copywriting) Market communication Employee engagement On-line and digital communication Public relations Brand management Stakeholder management Government relations Event management 4. Ability to work effectively in a team and with multiple internal stakeholders and clients in geographically dispersed environment. 5.
