StudentWeb Instructions – Educational plan
As a new student at NHH, you must confirm your educational plan for the first time before 1st
September (1st February when entering in the Spring semester). At the same time, you must sign up
for your exams and register yourself for the semester. You do this in StudentWeb, found here:
http://www.nhh.no/en/student-pages/registration.aspx
In order to access StudentWeb, you must use either your FEIDEID (the same username and password
you use to log onto the computers at NHH) or with your Norwegian social security number
(Fødselsnummer) and PIN -code (4 digits).
Your PIN – code is printed on the bill you were sent for the semester fee. You can also choose to have
it sent to your student e-mail account, use the button on the log- in page that says “Send PIN-kode
med e-post”.
You are not allowed to confirm your education plan, sign up for exams or register for the semester at
NHH before you have paid the semester fee, and the payment is registered in our system. It takes
normally 1-3 business days from when you pay the fee until you have access to the system.
(Note: Exchange students at NHH do not need to pay the semester fee.)
After your payment is registered, it will appear at the top of the Home Page in StudentWeb. There
will also be displayed messages concerning your education plan.
You begin registration/confirmation of your education plan by choosing the links on the left under
“Registrations”.
The individual education plan is in two parts: 1) is the general part of the plan. This is where you will
confirm that you have read and understood the information necessary for a successful completion of
your studies (rules and regulations, the study program for your major, etc.).
You can access the information by clicking on the links “read more”. The documents will then open in
their own windows. We advise that you take your time studying these before you log on to
StudentWeb to register since you will be automatically logged out of the system after 10 minutes of
inactivity.
When you are ready to confirm that you have read and understood all the information, log in to
StudentWeb, check all the appropriate boxes and then click “OK”.
You will not be able to progress to the next section of the education plan until you have confirmed
that the information presented in Part 1 has been read and understood. Your confirmation, and the
date, will be entered into our student data base.
After Part 1 is confirmed you will be automatically taken to Part 2. Here you will create a plan for
your course progression: a list over which courses you will be completing in each semester.
While creating a progression plan, you will be presented with choices according to the chosen Study
Program. The education plan also aids you by not allowing registration for courses for which there
are not offered lectures and exams during that semester. Please note that we reserve the right to
make changes in the course catalog for future semesters.
Information on course offerings in the various Study Programs, and course descriptions, are to be
found in the Study Handbook: http://www.nhh.no/en/student-pages/subjects/the-studyhandbook.aspx.
We advise that you decide your major and minor affiliations early, and the accompanying courses. In
later semesters you will be able to make changes when confirming your education plan for a given
semester. In the current semester, you will only be able to make changes up to the registration
deadlines.
You choose the first courses in your education plan by clicking on “Add course” in the main frame.
For Master’s studies, you will choose a major with 6 courses and 6 courses as electives, chosen from
any of the offerings in the Master’s program. It is recommended to take four courses within the same
specialization in order to get a minor profile in addition to your major. (These are found by clicking
on the “+” next to the category “Courses in the minor profile and elective courses”.)
Courses which are marked with “(compulsory)” do not need to be added to your plan, they have
been added automatically. In addition to the obligatory courses, there will be several courses you
must complete in which you must choose, for example, one of two choices, or two of three.
Information on this can be found in the Study handbook. These courses are marked with the code
“A1-4”.
For example: The Major in Financial Economics allows a maximum of two courses with the prefix
code “ECO”. In the education plan, these are marked with “MAX”.
The education plan will not prevent you from registering for more courses, nor will it check whether
or not you have fulfilled the requirements for an obligatory course. It is your responsibility to make
sure you satisfy the requirements that are presented in the Study program.
You add courses by first clicking the button next to the course, then clicking on “Add selected course”
at the bottom of the window. You can add more than one course in a session.
Once you add a course, select the semester and click on “Add selected course”.
Afterwards, close the window by clicking “Close course search”.
To add more courses in your education plan, click on “Add course” for a given semester.
If you choose a restricted access course, you will also have to apply for admission to that course. Click
on the pencil icon to the right of the course listing and then click on “New class registration”.
Admission to restricted access courses will be completed shortly after the application deadline, see
the guidelines here. http://www.nhh.no/en/student-pages/subjects/courses-with-restrictedaccess.aspx. Class and exam registrations will be made available for those who are given a seat in the
respective courses. Until that time, it will show “Admission in progress”:
Some courses have a two part evaluation/exam. For example, MBM401 Consumer Behavior has a
semester paper (MBM401OPPG) and a written exam (MBM401EKS). In these cases it is necessary to
register for both elements in your education plan. The course will not be completed and grade
assigned before you have successfully passed in both elements. The element which is completed as
semester work (papers, home exams, etc.) must be passed before you take the written exam for that
course.
Elective courses can be removed by clicking on the red “X” to the right of the course. Compulsory
courses cannot be removed.
Note: Once your education plan has been confirmed in Part 2, you can no longer register or drop
courses for that semester in Part 2. You must use the “Registrations for classes and exams”
window, found directly below “Individual education plan 2” on the left hand side of the screen.
Courses can be moved to another semester (if there are offered lectures and exams in other
semesters) by clicking on the pencil icon to the right of the course. Choose a new semester from the
drop down list and click “save”. This can be done even after having registered for the exam. (This is
also a way in which exams can be taken in later semesters, or “konte-eksamener”)
A complete education plan will contain 12 courses, totaling 120 study points.
After you have completed arranging your plan, check that you satisfy the requirements for the total
number of study points, within the proper categories. Then confirm your plan by clicking on “Confirm
plan” at the bottom of the page.
At the same time, you are registered for exams in those courses you will be attending in the current
semester. This can be checked under “Registrations for classes and exams”.
If a course has open registration, you will receive that message on the registration page. Click on the
pencil icon to the right of each course listing. Information on restricted access courses can be found
in the Study Handbook: http://www.nhh.no/en/student-pages/subjects/courses-with-restrictedaccess.aspx.
Certify that your exam registrations are correct. Any exam registration can be removed by clicking on
the check-mark under “Exam registrations” when a course listing has been opened. Click “Save”
afterwards to save your changes and close the course listing.
During semester registration it is required that you provide contact information. Check that your
address is correct. If you have a mobile phone number, and/or a private email address, we would like
you to also provide these.
The last step of registration is a short questionnaire concerning your background we would like you
to fill out. This is only used for statistical purposes; your answers will at no time be used in
connection with your name.
After you have answered the questionnaire, your registration is complete. This can be seen on the
“Home” page of the StudentWeb.
Approximately three days later, you will receive your semester card in the mail, to that address which
is given I StudentWeb.
You receive only one semester card. If you later make changes in your education plan/ exam
registration, we advise that you make a print-out of the page that shows your exam registrations.
You can, at any time before the registration deadlines, make changes in your education plan.
Under “Status” you can find the confirmed information from Part 1 of your education plan, and an
overview of your registered exams.
Results of exams at NHH are available under the heading “Exam results” as soon as they are
published.
After your original registration as a new student, you will not be sent a bill for the payment of future
semester fees. Payment information will be found under “Payment”.
Please remember that your education plan must be confirmed again every semester. Changes can
then also be made.
