Broward SR A1A Scenic Highway 5-Year Corridor Management Plan Update Project Summary October 2013 The Corridor Management Entity (CME) group in corporation with the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization is leading the effort to complete a 5-Year Corridor Management Plan (CMP) Update for the Broward State Road (SR) A1A Scenic Highway. This effort is being completed with support from the following entities: Hallandale Beach Sea Ranch Lakes Hollywood Beach Pompano Beach Dania Beach Hillsboro Beach Fort Lauderdale Deerfield Beach Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Broward County For Broward SR A1A to remain designated as a Florida Scenic Highway, the CME must submit an Annual Report each year. Every five years, the CME is required to submit a 5-Year CMP Update as part of the program. The 5-Year CMP Update is completed as a means to reevaluate the Goals, Objectives, and Strategies, and the Action Plan included in the original CMP. This reevaluation assesses what the (CME) has accomplished over the past five years and establishes the direction for the next five years. This process also provides opportunities to both assess what key features, also referred to as intrinsic resources, are located along the corridor and identify ways to conserve and protect the key features while promoting them for tourism and economic development. As part of the Broward SR A1A 5-Year CMP Update process, an initial workshop was held with the CME. This was then followed by two public workshops, one in Pompano Beach on October 14, 2013 and one in Hollywood on October 15, 2013. During each of the workshops, participants discussed the major components of the CMP, including: Corridor Vision and Story Key Features Goals, Objectives, and Strategies Action Plan The major themes of the CME workshop included streamlining the Goals, Objectives, and Strategies; using the Corridor Story to connect the past (history) and the future (vision); developing a hierarchy to rank key features, and leveraging technology to promote the scenic corridor. The major themes at the two public workshops were reducing signage clutter, improving safety, and promoting the history of the area. As the project continues, the input from both the CME and the public will be compiled, data collected during site visits will be assessed, and the 5-Year CMP Update will be completed to reflect the updated Vision; Goals, Objectives, and Strategies; and Action Plan. The 5-Year CMP Update will also include strategies for protecting key features and recommendations for promoting the corridor. Once completed, the 5-Year CMP Update will serve as a guide to help realize the vision the community has for the SR A1A Scenic Highway corridor.
