Position Overview:
The Research Associate will work with the Therapeutics Research and Infectious
Disease Epidemiology group (TIDE) within the Department of Population Medicine
(DPM). The TIDE group manages complex, national, multi-institutional research
initiatives that utilize claims data, electronic health data (EHR), and registries.
This position is responsible for performing a variety of activities related to data
management, analysis, and reporting of results for studies under the growing
Infectious Disease research portfolio, including large scale hospital-based cluster
randomized clinical trials. This position requires high-level communication and
technical skills for close collaboration with investigators, project managers and
other programmer/analysts, both within Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare Institute (HPHCI)
and with external institutions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Participate in all aspects of studies, including data management, technical
specification development, data analysis, data presentation, and reporting.
* Develop and maintain statistical programs to perform analyses and generate
both routine and ad hoc reports, in close consultation with investigators,
statisticians, senior programmers, and software developers.
* Work with large medical claims and electronic health record datasets in a in a
distributed data environment.
Minimum requirements:
* BA/BS in public health, quantitative social sciences, economics, statistics,
mathematics, bioinformatics or related field required; MA/MS preferred.
* Minimum of three years' experience with statistical programming in SAS
required, R or other statistical software is a plus.
* Prior relevant experience in a research environment.
* Exposure to varied data systems (e.g., claims data, electronic health records,
registries, clinical trials).
* Sound knowledge of research methods specific to epidemiology.
* Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, PowerPoint,
and Excel.
* Ability to analyze data and report data findings.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to act independently and with good judgment.
* Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple simultaneous research studies.
Organizational relationships:
* The Research Associate reports to a TIDE Project Manager. S/he will interact
with study investigators and staff within HPHCI and collaborating institutions,
but also functions with a high level of independence.
