Ph.D. Student Information and Orientation Session
All incoming Ph.D. students are highly advised to attend the Ph.D. Information and
Orientation Session, which will be taking place on Thursday, 17 September 2015 from
11.00-1.00PM in the Ed Burke Theatre, Arts Block.
Other students interested in doing a Ph.D. are also welcome to attend.
International Student Orientation
This highly informative orientation session will take place on Monday, 14 September 2015
from 2.30-4.00PM in the Ed Burke Theatre, Arts Block. It is designed for all non-Irish
students. Important subjects such as Garda National Immigration Bureau requirements and
how to open an Irish bank account (among many other topics) will be addressed both by
your Graduate Students’ Union and Trinity’s Global Relations team.
Important note: For all non-Irish incoming postgraduate students, this session is to be attended in addition
to your faculty-specific orientation or, if you are a Ph.D. student, your Ph.D. Information & Orientation
session.
Student-Supervisor Relationship Orientation
Join the Postgraduate Advisory Service and the Graduate Students’ Union on Friday, 18
September 2015 from 2.30-3.30PM in the Ed Burke Theatre, Arts Block, for an
orientation session covering all you need to know about the Student-Supervisor
Relationship.
Accommodation in Dublin
Join the Graduate Students’ Union on Thursday, 17 September 2015, from 4.30-5.30PM
in the Ed Burke Theatre (Arts Block) to get all the information you need about finding
accommodation in Dublin. We will provide you with tips and tools to make this transition
easier.
This session will be followed by a social event Speed-Housemate-Finding & Dinner, which
will be taking place at the Generator Hostel (click here for google map). Please note that our volunteers will
also be escorting groups to the Hostel after the Accommodation orientation session takes place.
Buses 39 & 39A from Pearse Street, Dublin bikes (outside Pearse street entrance) and the Luas (Red Line)
from Abbey Street to Smithfield station, will take you to the Generator Hostel.

BLU Library Tours (AHSS Faculty)
"BLU" stands for the Berkeley, Lecky and Ussher libraries. These are most typically used by
AHSS students (Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences), though a tour could also be of use
to EMS & HS Faculty postgraduates. All tours begin at the Berkeley Library’s foyer.

PROVOST’S WELCOME ADDRESS
Join us on Wednesday, 16 September 2015 in the Ed
Burke Theatre (Arts Block) from 2.30-3.30PM to here from
Trinity’s Provost, Dr. Patrick Prendergast during the
Provost’s Welcome Address.
The Provost is the Head of the university, equivalent to
President or Rector in other universities. He previously
served as the Vice-Provost & Chief Academic Officer
(2008-2011) and Dean of Graduate Studies (2004-2007).
Provost Prendergast looks forward to welcoming you all
to Trinity College Dublin, University of Dublin!
Postgrad Coffee Mornings
The Graduate Students’ Union will be hosting a coffee reception on every day during
Postgrad Orientation Week 2015, from 11.00-12.00PM. Not only is this a great way to get
to know various coffee spots on campus, it is also a great opportunity to get know new
and returning postgrads! We will be serving free tea, coffee, beverages and snacks.

Walk North on Westmoreland Street and then cross over O’Connell Bridge. Walk up O’Connell Street until
you cross Abbey Street. Turn right on Abbey Street and purchase a ticket for the Abbey Street Luas. Take
the Luas (direction Tallaght or Saggart) and stop at Smithfield. This trip is within Zone 1 and should cost
approximately €1.80 per person per trip. Once out of the Smithfield Luas, walk up Smithfield road towards
to Generator Hostel.
