Neighborhood Development Coordinator
Primary Team Leader: Director of Construction
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt, Full Time 40 hours per week.
Salary Range: $35,000-40,000 annually
Job Summary: The Neighborhood Development Coordinator is an integral part of the agency, working to
further the mission of Habitat for Humanity Kansas City through the efficient processing of any and all
administrative tasks in the areas of Government Funding, Land Acquisition, and Neighborhood
Revitalization. If you enjoy an action packed day which will challenge you to think creatively and often

General Requirements:
The ideal candidate is a self-starter, well organized and possesses good verbal and written
communication skills. The candidate should be comfortable doing outreach on the local, county,
regional, state and federal levels. Candidate should have a significant skill in building and maintaining
relationships with other affordable housing providers and ancillary agencies. This position is also
responsible for pursuing and processing HUD, public sector, and government funding as assigned. An
interest in research, mapping, and community development is necessary, as this position investigates
and executes all strategic land acquisition from public and private sources in coordination with the
Executive Director, Construction Director, and Development Director. A real estate or urban
planning/development background would be a beneficial skill set.
Responsibilities:
Neighborhood Outreach * Most Important*
The Neighborhood Development Coordinator develops and coordinates strategies and programs
designed to build and strengthen resident involvement. Promotes activities and services, and creates
sustainability through various forms of media.





Expand resident connections to each other and additional resources to accomplish
neighborhood goals
Actively recruit, train, support and empower unengaged residents and community
representatives to enthusiastically participate, develop strategies and address issues
Become familiar with and assist in further implementing Success Measures research &
evaluation tactics; assist in generating and presenting qualitative/quantitative reports utilizing
provided data and statistics
Help develop and implement resident engagement strategies based on methods determined to
be effective.
Manage the Home Preservation Program. Educate applicants on program requirements and
assist participants through project process from start to finish. Program consists of receiving
applications from homeowners on minor home repair projects. Habitat and homeowner share
in the cost of the project. Habitat performs the repairs.
Land Acquisition and Pre-construction issues
The Neighborhood Development Coordinator will facilitate and assist the Construction Director and
acquisition process; fulfill SHOP requirements; resolving lot issues; filing documents with the county and
city.
 Land Acquisition: The Neighborhood Development Coordinator, working with the Executive
Director, will take the lead on acquiring land through donation and purchase by completing the
necessary research, paperwork, contracts and communicating with the donor or seller.
 SHOP: The Neighborhood Development Coordinator will work with HFHI, HUD and the City to
insure that all the necessary paperwork and research have been done to secure SHOP
infrastructure funding. In addition the Neighborhood Development Coordinator will be
responsible for identifying the expenses that are reimbursable through SHOP and filing those
invoices with HFHI in a timely manner.
 Resolving Lot Issues: The Neighborhood Development Coordinator works with the Construction
Director and the County and City GIS departments to request lot combinations or lot splits and
completes the necessary paperwork and filing with those entities.
Relationship Building
The Neighborhood Development Coordinator is responsible for attending community meetings on
behalf of Habitat including but not limited to:
 Monthly Home Owners Association meetings for Ivanhoe, Boston Heights, Mount Hope and
other neighborhoods that HFHKC serves.
 The City Council Housing Committee and other City Council District Meetings
 The Kansas City Neighborhood Advisory Council
 The Kansas City Citizens Advisory Committee on Housing
 The Vacant Property Task Force and other Post Foreclosure meetings.
 Staff meetings and other relevant agency meetings.
Compliance
The Neighborhood Development Coordinator works with the Construction and Finance Departments on
allocation and distribution of donated dollars to appropriate projects.
 Maintains thorough records of deeds, transfers, acquisitions and all other materials related to
property status.
 Stays abreast of the latest developments regarding government relations, grants and land
acquisition and other useful news that would benefit the affiliate.
