No. NUIG 28-14 Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher within the Centre for Chromosome Biology at the National University of Ireland Galway. This position is funded by the Else Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung and is available from 2014 for 2 years with a possible extension, subject to a 12-month probationary period. This postdoctoral position is available within the Cell Cycle Control Laboratory (http://www.chromosome.ie/researchers/nasheuer/) a constituent laboratory of the Centre for Chromosome Biology (http://www.chromosome.ie/) at the National University of Ireland Galway. The successful applicant will utilise biochemical and molecular biological approaches to understand the function and mechanism of action of small RNAs in the inhibition of human polyomavirus DNA replication. Job Description: The successful candidate will be required to: Successfully manage and develop their assigned projects Perform biochemical and molecular biological analyses of the inhibition of polyomavirus DNA replication by small RNAs Carry out electron microscopy Contribute to laboratory management Contribute to the training of students Perform data analysis Qualifications/Experience of applicants: The successful candidate must have: A PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics or other cognate area A successful track record in Biomedical research Evidence of self-directed research capability Advanced experience in characterising the biological functions and mechanisms of action of genes/proteins is essential Advanced experience in basic molecular biology, including basic biochemistry and immunochemistry and cloning techniques Applicants should have very good cell biology expertise Applicants should have excellent communication and organizational skills Applicants should be highly motivated and passionate about their research Applicants should have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate would have experience in the field of DNA replication and/or genome stability and would be well placed to apply for independent personal fellowships. Salary: €37,750 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply) Start date: Position is available from May 2014 until mid 2016 with the possibility of an additional two years extension.
