As we closed out the third quarter, our teachers began preparing our students to take the AIMS test. We have been utilizing our after school program, funded by our 21st Century Grant, to focus on students who have struggled with AIMS in the past or who have academic indicators of low performance on AIMS. Our teachers have spent hundreds of hours tutoring students. Parents are noticing a difference in their child’s academic ability, more importantly, the students are gaining confidence! Over intersession, I met with a representative from the ADE 21st Century Grant Program for our annual review. We received notification that we had met the requirements to regain $30,000 of the grant which had been reduced because of student attendance during the 2012-2013 school year. Our program coordinator, Leah Stenson, has done a great job of working with teachers to create an environment that students want to be a part of. We are going to use this money to further expand our class offerings during the afterschool program. With the fourth quarter beginning, our attention is focused first on AIMS and then quickly turns to preparations for the next school year. Our staff will be involved in some professional development that will set us up for when they return in July. The fourth quarter of the school year always brings excitement and tons of energy. It’s a GREAT time to be a Bulldog!
