For Immediate Release: 1st November 2012 Healthcare at Home and Nova Healthcare in partnership with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust offer cancer patients greater choice of care at home From the 1st November, patients at Nova Healthcare within the St James's Institute of Oncology in Leeds will be offered the choice of continuing their care pathway and receiving treatment at home. Once diagnosed, patients will have a conversation with their consultant in the comfortable surroundings of Nova Healthcare. Here they will schedule all investigations and review the results before discussing with the patient their preferred location of treatment. The patient then has the choice of receiving care at home or in the hospital. Nova Healthcare has a full spectrum of radiotherapy and diagnostic facilities alongside a state of the art chemotherapy suite, which will, as of November this year, be complimented by the expert homecare provision of Healthcare at Home. The alliance between Healthcare at Home and Nova Healthcare offers the highest level of local support and personalised care from a multidisciplinary team of fully qualified oncologists, nurse specialists and pharmacists. The clinical and administrative teams from both organisations will be working together to deliver a unique, innovative service for privately insured or self-funding patients. Cancer treatment can be an uncomfortable and stressful ordeal for patients. Travelling to and from a hospital as well as receiving treatment itself, often impacts the patient both physically and emotionally. Studies have shown that home chemotherapy is as safe as hospital based care and that patient satisfaction is high when chemotherapy and supportive medications are given at home. Mark Almond, Executive Director of Nova Healthcare, welcomed the alliance with Healthcare at Home “We are delighted to announce the alliance which we feel offers patients a genuine choice of being treated in a hospital or at home. By sharing our documentation and records, the nursing teams at Nova Healthcare and Healthcare at Home can, and will, provide the highest standard of care to cancer patients” In commenting on the alliance, Ruth Poole, Group Clinical Director for Healthcare at Home said “Healthcare at Home specialises in delivering high quality healthcare in non clinical settings. Our partnership with Nova Healthcare affords patients a choice in their treatment plan and provides reassurance of a seamless journey between the hospital and their home.
